  • Glamping site on a 600-acre estate 10 miles from Canterbury
  • Within a half-hour drive of Margate and Howletts Wildlife Park
  • Kitchen, smart bathroom cabin and indoor/outdoor living areas
Well, isn’t this a splendid spot for smart sleeps? The peaceful meadow of Glamping at Preston Court sits in is part of a whopping 600-acre estate just outside the village of Preston; days out at local wildlife parks, in Canterbury or on the beach are all within a half-hour drive, and it's a short amble from a nature reserve and the Little Stour river for rural rambles. No carting heaps of kit around here: tents are fully furnished with proper beds and extra touches including duck down duvets and hot water bottles. Each has an electrical supply for heating, lighting and fans, and there's a well-equipped bathroom cabin a short trot away with toilets and powerful hot showers. For breakfast, wander over to the Wendy house kitchen, where there’s a good stash of provisions including farm-fresh eggs. Those planning evenings of alfresco feasting will be chuffed to see plenty of outdoor seating and tables scattered around too, along with barbecues, firepits and a chiminea that can be fuelled by picking up a pack of firewood from the farm. (If you'd rather eat out, there are a couple of country pubs within strolling distance and several more a short drive away.) Should it be a little chilly to sit out, stroll over to the site's geodesic dome, which has been kitted out with all the sheepskin rugs and twinkly fairy lights one could need for a cosy evening watching the sunset or stargazing...

Local attractions

You may well spot local wildlife right there on site, but for guaranteed sightings (and a more exotic range of animals), there are two excellent wildlife parks about a 10-minute drive away. Head to Wingham Wildlife Park for a daily programme of talks and feeding sessions, or follow the trails around Howletts Wild Animal Park to see beasts from across the globe. Canterbury, 20 minutes away, is a fab place for a day out, especially for historyheads: wander around the cathedral and the Roman museum, or hear the stories at the Canterbury Tales exhibition. And after that? Boarding a boat or gondola to see the city from the water. If you fancy a beach day (or few), pack yourselves into the car and in less than half an hour you can be in Whitstable or Deal, or visiting Margate’s Turner Contemporary art gallery.
