  • Peaceful countryside setting with luxury bell tents
  • Rural and dog-friendly site less than an hour from London
  • Modern washroom with hot showers and toilets
Clothes, food and possibly some vino is all that's needed on a break at Longberry Farm, where the highly thoughtful owners have added all you can think of and then some. Accommodation here is in luxury bell tents kitted out with all sorts, including bed linen and towels, crockery and cooking equipment, cushions, pillows and candles. Each also comes with outdoor seating, a gas barbecue and a firepit; firewood is included in the price, so feel free to pile it up to settle back alongside flames and under stars. For speedier meals and stashing supplies there's a kitchenette nearby with a fridge, freezer and microwave. Longberry Farm is a small, family-run glampsite for short breaks, romantic weekends and longer countryside hols. It's about a mile outside the rural Kent village of Bethersden which has two popular pubs serving food daily, a local village shop for supplies, a post office and an acclaimed butcher where you can pick up fresh meat for the barbie. Several more pubs, as well as restaurants, are in the surrounding villages. As well as all the kit added to your splendidly swish bell tent, a modern washroom with hot showers and toilets is also on site – and also kitted out to luxury standards.

Local attractions

Several scenic walks start from the farm's front gate and you can easily access longer hikes like the seven and a half miles or so over Crundale Downs and the local stretch of the 153-mile North Downs Way. The 108 miles of the Greensand Way, running from Surrey's Haslemere, passes the nearby village of Kingsnorth on its way to its final stop at Hamstreet. For Kent sands, the beaches of Dymchurch, Camber and Hythe all under 15 miles away are home to a varied lot for days out including the world’s smallest public railway at the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway; long stretches of sands; donkeys and amusements, and another (slightly more doable) walk along the 22-mile Elham Valley Way from Hythe to Canterbury Cathedral. If you're feeling more driven to explore the land of Chaucer, the Kent capital is about half an hour away from Longberry by car. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most visited cities in Britain and is crammed with sights to see as well as its magnif cathedral, such as the Roman Museum, Canterbury Castle and the Rupert Bear Museum at Canterbury Heritage Museum. Other options are the leisure centres, pools, museum, designer outlet and weekly market at the nearby old town of Ashford, or day trips at the old castles of the area such as Leeds and Dover.
