  • Luxurious safari tents in a three-acre meadow on the Isle of Wight
  • Ventnor 10 minutes’ drive and Steephill Cove Beach 15 minutes
  • Private shower rooms, animal encounters, play barn and honesty shop
What could beat camping on the Isle of Wight? Glamping on the Isle of Wight perhaps? If you agree, then Sibbecks Farm Glamping, 10 minutes’ drive from Ventnor, is where you should be. This family-run site in the Isle of Wight National Landscape has spectacular countryside views from luxurious and roomy safari tents. Each tent has proper beds with top-quality linens (and electric blankets for colder nights), a fully equipped kitchen, an open-plan dining/living area and a private shower hut right next-door. Mains electricity, hot water and heat from a woodburning stove also come as part of the deal. Set in a peaceful three-acre meadow, the tents are spaced out and have plenty of outdoor area around them for your privacy. A stream runs through the meadow, and there’s an added bonus in the shape of a small woodland with play areas for kids and relaxation spots for adults. During your stay you can meet and feed guinea pigs, ducks and chickens – the latter are the very ones that provide freshly laid eggs for your breakfast. Other family-friendly features include the play barn with scooters, badminton and table tennis, as well as an honesty shop selling local goodies, wood and charcoal. Each tent has a dedicated parking bay and wheelbarrow to transport your luggage, so please ensure you park in the correct place (as indicated by the signs).

Local attractions

In the unlikely event that you have any desire to leave your luxurious safari tent, the site owners will provide buckets and spades for the kids to take to the beach. The nearest are at Ventnor and Steephill Cove (both 15 minutes’ drive), where you can go swimming, surfing, paddleboarding or coasteering (all can be booked from Sibbecks Farm). If you’re into dinosaurs, the local beaches rival the Jurassic Coast for dinosaur fossils; go foraging along the west coast between Compton Beach (20 minutes) and Atherfield (10 minutes), and then compare your finds with the displays in the Dinosaur Expedition Centre (15 minutes).    If you have younger kids with you, they’ll appreciate the dinosaur walks, maze and gentle rollercoasters at Blackgang Chine. Locally, you can also get up close and have a cuddle with cute, snuffly donkeys at the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary, and learn about the conservation of endangered animals at Amazon World Zoo (all ten minutes).
