Electric grass tent pitch (XL)

Liked: Excellent campsite, quiet, secluded but close enough to all amenities, clean, tidy & well run. Found next to nothing to dislike about it other than a fairly pot-hole ridden driveway. Found out during the course of our stay that my grandparents had stayed here in 1968, and also that one of the owners is the best chum since school of my cousin. It truly is a small world!

Disliked: Not much other than the toilet/shower block could be cleaned more than once a day, particularly after most folks have used it in the morning to get washed.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Nice campsite, clean facilities with all you would need for an extended camping trip. Like the bay isles, all nice sizes, high capacity site but with the hedges you feel quite private. Location is everything you would need for a family trip with young children, barely 30 minutes from the ferry, 5-10 minutes from shanklin and sandown beach. Local sites all short drives away, lots of food options. Friendly welcome!

Disliked: Would have happily paid extra for WiFi due to my phone service not being great, but was nice to switch off!

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Lovely friendly greeting from Carol. Great location off the close to amenities but off the main road. Quiet fields all around and nice large pitches. Showers and toilets kept clean. Plenty of hot water. Nice walks close by for walking the dog. The reception offered lots of extras, although we didn't use them. Plus there is an area for children and outdoor table tennis etc. Really nicely kept campsite

Disliked: The timer for the hot water in the shower too quick if washing hair. Could also do with a shelf or more hooks in the shower cubicles. Not all pitches are not level so chocks needed.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely, clean and quiet site. Close enough to walk into Shanklin, far enough away to feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere. Nice big pitches, flat and no stones! Beautiful area with all amenities close by. Would definitely stay again.

Disliked: Nothing!

Liked: Wonderful campsite. Very safe for the younger kids (5&9) allowing them freedom to cycle and play with new friends. Close to shops and cycle routes and still feeling very peaceful. Toilets and wash up area immaculately clean.

Disliked: A fridge/ freezer in the wash up area would be handy for campers.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Very warm welcome from the wardens (can't remember names sorry) who were extremely helpful and very informative about the area. The site is well kept and really peaceful. Facilities are basic but sufficient and are well kept and very clean. Small park on the site for the kids and plenty of routes to walk the dog from the site avoiding the main roads.

Local attractions

Got your walking boots and bike ready to go? Great – this site’s a fab base for investigating the many sights and attractions of the Isle of Wight by foot or on two wheels. Start off in Shanklin Chine (40 minutes’ walk), strolling around the gorge in this nature reserve, or amble down beside the coast and across the beaches and cliffs. In town there are shows to see at the theatre, cream teas to be eaten in the pubs and deck chairs to laze in on the sand. If you’ve got animal-loving nippers to appease, wander to the Amazon World Zoo (35 minutes) or dawdle to the Donkey Sanctuary (five minutes’ drive); you’ll also need to jump in the car for other Isle of Wight attractions like The Needles, a series of sharp-looking rocks poking out of the sea (40 minutes), and the flower-filled Ventnor Botanic Garden (15 minutes). For a break from nature, historical hotspots on the island include Appuldurcombe House (10 minutes), an 18th-century English baroque manor, as well as the old royal residence of Osborne, a former fave of Queen Victoria (20 minutes).
