  • Isle of Wight family park with plenty of organised activities
  • Indoor pool, bar and evening entertainment
  • Kids' club for children up to 11 years old
A lunchtime drink on the terrace of the Boathouse bar watching the white sails of the yachts zipping across the water, a hop and a skip down the leafy path to the beach for the afternoon, or a fun-filled night of live entertainment in the Showbar… there are many ways to relax at Thorness Bay Holiday Park in Cowes. Whippersnappers will love whooshing down the slide into the indoor pool before trying out a bit of snorkelling and rollerblading, and they may disappear for some time into the various kids’ clubs, which offer funtastic activities for kids up to 11. The whole family can get stuck into a range of sports on the all-weather court, and during the organised sessions you could chance your arm at archery or even learn to wield a crossbow. To complement the usual amenities, there’s a shop and laundry room, an outdoor playground for the little ones, amusements, darts and a pool table – and the occasional bingo session thrown in for fun.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Hard standing on the super pitch we had (needed blocks to level the caravan). Being able to walk to the bay and play activities with the children and explore without getting in the car. Having laundry, food options and a well stocked shop on site plus a swimming pool and entertainment for the children.

Disliked: Nothing we can think of!

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The location of the site, pitch sizes, facilities on site including a well stocked shop.

Disliked: Small shower / toilet block for large camping area, often getting unhygienic / dirty due to use by so many people. Grass fleas and mosquitoes, the beautiful adjoining bay to the site was unclean and has a dirty water run off from the adjacent farm putting waste / polluted water into the bay.

Cedar electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: The night entertainment derek sandy and the Madonna tribute act

Disliked: Expensive. Lots of litter. 2 broken gates on children's playground. Every single cash point was out of order. 2 vending machines out of order. No popcorn. The chippy ran out of food at 9pm. The toilets stank so bad they were absolutely disgusting and dirty. Bins with no lids attracted hundreds of wasps. Dirty windows in bar area. The shops prices were triple of what should be. Very rude receptionist. Broken fences, overflowing bins. Really gone down hill. We won't return.

Local attractions

Visitors will find lots of yachts and powerboats to drool over in Cowes harbour, and the town is also home to Osborne House, the country retreat of Queen Victoria and her brood. It’s well worth a nose around this magnificent house and its lovely gardens, and the Victorian afternoon teas aren’t half bad either… Since the Isle of Wight is such a bijou island, it doesn’t take long to reach other top attractions such as Carisbrooke Castle, the posh pile where King Charles I was imprisoned, and the island’s heritage steam railway, which regularly runs themed events. For those who fancy a change from the beach at Thorness Bay, the shallow waters at Colwell Bay beach, about 25 minutes away by car, are great for swimming, as well as watersports such as jetskiing and windsurfing.
