Meonvale Farm Camping: Grassy pitches

General

  • Simple site on a working farm in the South Downs National Park
  • A mile from Meonstoke; Winchester city centre 20 minutes' drive
  • Easy pedestrian access to established trails

Meonvale Farm Camping is a secluded farm site with outstanding views over the South Downs countryside. Situated between two nature reserves and with an excellent outlook over Old Winchester Hill, this simple campsite is in a great location for several long-distance walks, including the South Downs Way, the Monarch's Way, the Wayfarer's Walk and the Pilgrims' Trail. The site is also adjacent to the Meon Valley Trail, an 11-mile bike track that runs through peaceful Hampshire countryside.

Such rural surroundings mean lots of peace and quiet for guests here, who can expect to see a good deal of wildlife during their stay, including spectacular birds of prey. There's an eight-acre pitching field where you'll have plenty of space to put up your tent – simply pick your own plot on arrival. Facilities are basic at this site and include toilets and a covered washing-up area. Please be prepared to take all rubbish home with you as the site does not have waste disposal facilities.

Meonstoke is a mile away by road and slightly less if you take the footpath. The village's shop and pub can be reached on foot within a quarter of an hour – head to the latter if you're tempted by the prospect of some takeaway sourdough pizza…

Very nice location, quiet and lots of wildlife around. It’s a very safe area surrounded by fields of crops. Short walk away from the south downs way. Toilets were portaloos however were mostly clean for our stay even though they were well used. Owners were very friendly and accommodating coming round to check everything was okay, even noticed that he helped someone who had broken down. Would stay here again.

This site is a hidden gem. Very peaceful. The owner was very helpful and friendly. The field is spacious and mainly flat. We had our own facilities but also used the portaloos which were very clean and supplied with toilet roll etc. The washing up area was a good idea, although we didn’t use it. Loved being able to walk out of the field on to a variety of walks and several lovely pubs within walking distance.

    Disliked:

We would be a bit hesitant taking our campervan down the lane leading to the farm if the hedges become too overgrown

Had the most amazing weekend with my partner what a beautiful location so peaceful and quiet so great to be so close to nature. The owner was so nice popped round to make sure we was ok every now and again gave us directions to all local attractions and even jump starter my van as the battery went flat. The toilets are spotless, clean running water and the spacing between the tents is more then a stones throw away so nicely spaced out. We have already booked to come next weekend with the kids and will be coming every weekend now thanks for an amazing time see you soon Luke and Charlotte

Large site, well spaced out with very clean toilets. Owner was helpful giving information about local area and walks. Sadly we only stayed for a night as we were just doing a trial run but would recommend. Just remember to embrace the birds as they are very enthusiastic with their singing!

    Disliked:
