  • Pitches in a Hampshire hay meadow between the coast and countryside
  • On the New Forest border, 10 minutes’ drive from Milford on Sea
  • Small, quiet site with field kitchen and hot tubs (additional charge)
Evenings soaking eating alfresco after days spent sailing from Milford on Sea or horse-riding in the New Forest? If that gets a ‘yes’ from you, you’ll be set for a stay at Lightfoot’s Farm on the southern border of the New Forest National Park. A 10-minute drive from Milford on Sea and a short drive from the ‘forest proper’, as the locals call it, the location is convenient for all sorts, like sailing, canoeing, paddleboarding, fishing, horse riding, hiking and archery. Lightfoot's Farm is a three-acre smallholding with just a handful of pitches in the hay meadow. The owners grow a few fruit and nut trees in the meadow, along with vegetables for the owners and their friends, and they run a commercial vertical farm growing microgreens and micro herbs. Those herbs are mostly for direct sales to local businesses but there are always a few in the field kitchen’s fridge for guests to help themselves to. If you’d like to have a little look around the farm, just ask. For more splendid eats, there are several good eateries within a few minutes’ drive (including a fine seafood selection in Milford on Sea). Facilities for guests include picnic tables, firepits and that handy field kitchen for sorting your meals and snacks. And of course there are also those hot tubs: woodfired and available to book on site on a first-come, first-served basis for an additional charge. They’re just the place to unplug, unwind and spend an evening listening to the meadow’s soundtrack as the sun sets.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The campsite is perfect for grounding, and re-connecting to nature.

The hosts have made great efforts to rewild the space with meadows, nut trees and ‘elephants foot’ - a new flower for me that I’d not seen before! It offers an amazing aroma and is pleasing to the eye and its edible!

The site offers an array of comforting sights and sounds to make the stay peaceful and relaxing.

The hosts are happy to share knowledge about harvesting MicroGreens (sold fresh on site) & gave insight into agroecology whilst respecting distance, to allow the camper to sit and ponder! Win-win.

There are pigs! Gorgeous, curious and well kept pigs. The hosts son taught me their feeding habits and was really pleasant.

The convenience’s are outstanding, and eco friendly! The kitchen space is very functional and well kept.

There’s a marque/ Glamping space that looked amazing whilst maintaining the tranquility of nature.

Disliked Everything was perfect, thank you Lightfoot Farm x

I can’t rate the WiFi as I never logged onto it. I didn’t want the internet during my stay. Hence the neutral rating of 5

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Absolutely gorgeous site - loved the wildflower meadow vibe, the cleanest loveliest compost loos I've ever seen, great kitchen facilities, great showers, and the most beautiful souls running the place ❤️ So friendly and welcoming while also respecting my space, I felt right at home and wished I could stay longer! Didn't use the hot tubs but would have if I'd had more time there, they looked lush. Gave me great recommendations on where to go hiking in New Forest, absolutely spot-on. Very quiet & peaceful surroundings. Will definitely be back xxx ps I didn't attempt to use WiFi so can't give a rating for that bit. Also didn't take a child so don't know about child friendliness but they strike me as the sort of people who are everyone-friendly so I'm giving it 10/10)

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Nice camping meadow and relaxed atmosphere. Pitch where you like. Excellent facilities including kitchen hut, compost loos, showers, firepits and wood-fired hot tubs available to hire (lovely way to spend an evening under the stars with some beer from one of the local breweries - be patient with the water temperature, it's a long game...). Wood available to buy. Really nice owner helped with the hot tub and gave us a box of delicious microgreen herbs from the farm to add to our dinner.

Nice rural site with good links. Would go again.

Liked Nice location with convenient public transport links (bus from New Milton stops directly outside but not Sundays/BH). Campsite was quiet, informal and in a nice natural setting.

Disliked Washing/toilet facilities were basic but adequate.

Local attractions

You might be quite busy surfing, sea kayaking or windsurfing in Milford on Sea (10 minutes’ drive), but when you get a chance, it’s right next to Hurst Castle (10 minutes). Built by Henry VIII, it’s almost as formidable as its original owner. Set slightly out to sea, this is now a scenic spot for picnics and games with kids. Those seeking awesome rock formations and signature arches might want to take a day trip to the Jurassic Coast (from an hour and 15 minutes). Closer by, there’s the gorgeous Solent Way Walk from Lymington for those who’d like to take in the local coastline. Of course, there’s even more action in the city of Southampton (40 minutes). Whether you visit the Sky Museum to see vintage aircraft, the art gallery or the Titanic model in the SeaCity museum, you should have plenty of preparation for the lively scenes in Bournemouth (35 minutes), which has classic beach huts, watersports, museums, amusement arcades and a beachside zipwire – the whole lot.
