General
- Camping on an 82-acre estate between the New Forest and river Test
- A 10-minute drive from Romsey town centre and Paultons Park
- Well-stocked fishing lakes and clubhouse serving hot meals or snacks
With laidback camping, nature all around and plenty of outdoor activities, Broadlands Lake Campsite is the real deal. Getting here could hardly be easier – the site is a few minutes' drive from the M27, meaning you have Romsey town centre, the Test Valley and the New Forest National Park all within close range.
Set on an 82-acre estate in a handsome part of Hampshire, this site can also sort you with day fishing tickets. Anglers have three lakes and a chalk-based river to choose from, with key species including carp, bream, tench, roach, perch and trout.
Whether or not you're planning on fishing, the site's exclusive access to the Test is a big plus as far as scenery is concerned. The pitching area is by the lake's edge, and you can explore other riverside beauty spots like Romsey (10 minutes' drive) or Mottisfont (20 minutes). Finally, there’s the fact that the 44-mile Test Way footpath is a few minutes' walk away if you feel like stretching your legs while out sightseeing.
You're a short drive from lots of food options here, but if you'd rather stick around on site there's also a cosy clubhouse that serves up hot meals and a range of tasty snacks to eat in or take away. Other facilities including brick-built toilets and showers (near the clubhouse), portaloos in various corners of the site and a cold-water washing-up area also help make pitching up here that little bit easier.

Local attractions
Planning a kid-friendly itinerary is particularly easy in this part of the world – rural-themed outings to Longdown Activity Farm (10 minutes' drive) and the rides at Paultons Park (10 minutes) should keep younger members of your brood happy, while more adventurous teens may prefer a trip to Calshot Activity Centre (25 minutes) for climbing, kayaking and windsurfing.
Cycling types, meanwhile, could head either to Calshot's indoor velodrome or journey out to the New Forest's extensive network of bike paths (from 15 minutes' drive). New arrivals would do well to start off in Lyndhurst (20 minutes), where you can hire a range of two-wheelers and get to grips with the lay of the land at The New Forest Heritage Centre.
If you're drawn instead to the quiet, grassy landscapes of the Test Valley, head to National Trust-run Mottisfont (20 minutes), which has a microcosm of the local area – a walled garden, gorgeous farmland, chalk-based rivers and a historic priory. For more green lawns and brilliant blooms, make the trip to privately owned Houghton Lodge Gardens (30 minutes).
