  • Small and luxurious glampsite near Burley in Hampshire’s New Forest
  • National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, and Buckler’s Hard 30 minutes’ drive
  • Forest access from the site; pubs and shops a five-minute walk
Set in fields at the New Forest Cider Farm near Burley in Hampshire, Tread Lightly Glamping is a small site offering luxuriously furnished bell tents – each with a private hot-water shower and composting toilet unit. Bed linen and towels are included, so all you need to bring is clothes and some food. Ready to unleash your inner outdoor chef? Each unit has its own fully equipped camp kitchen, complete with an Igloo cool box and firepit so you can rustle up meals on the barbecue. Logs, kindling and firelighters are all included for the duration of your stay, and on warm days, you can eat outside on your own private picnic bench. Evenings are generally peaceful and excellent for stargazing on clear nights, when you can snuggle up around the firepit on comfortable lounger chairs or squidgy outdoor bean bags. There are free-range ducks, geese and guinea fowl roaming around the farm, so while well-behaved dogs are welcome, please keep them on leads when on the site – lucky glamping doggies get their own fluffy blankets and towels, and tie stakes are provided. With direct access to the New Forest from the glamping fields, you can escape onto quiet woodland walks at a moment’s notice, but handily stores in Burley village are only five minutes’ walk away, so if you’ve forgotten anything, need to stock up or fancy eating in the pub, there’s no need to fret.

Local attractions

Tread Lightly Glamping has direct access to the New Forest and a myriad of trails for walking and cycling adventures. Not brought the bike? Not a problem, as you can hire one in Burley village (five minutes’ walk), where there is also a golf club, as well as a spa for special treats if you don’t feel like getting too active. Mix things up with a bit of history in the Maritime Museum at Buckler’s Hard on the Beaulieu river, where you can learn all about the building of Admiral Nelson’s navy. The National Motor Museum, Beaulieu (both half an hour’s drive) is a firm favourite for vintage-cars lovers and at the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum (10 minutes) you can have a poke around a collection of classic bikes and there’s also a petting zoo for kids. Ah, the kids. If they’ve behaved, head for the sands at Avon beach (15 minutes) for some splashing around in the sea. If they need run off extra energy, try them on high ropes and treetop trails at Moors Valley Country Park and Forest (20 minutes) or the zipwires at Go Ape Moors Valley (15 minutes).

Emperor bell tent

Liked: Beautiful set up, with access to new forest for walks. Loved the luxury tent with super comfortable beds and bedding. The kitchen was perfect for us as a family to cook some meals. Our own toilet and lovely hot shower were such a bonus. We enjoyed the fire pit in the evenings. The glamping site itself was calm and peaceful and we were welcomed by the owner sam on arrival.
