Longbeech Caravan and Camping Site: Pitch up in the forest (photo added by manager on 30/01/2023)

General

  • Secluded Hampshire family campsite in the New Forest National Park
  • Lymington, Beaulieu and Paulton's Park within a half-hour drive
  • Woodland pitches with direct access to waymarked walking trails

Amid ancient beech woods and abundant ferns in the New Forest National Park, Longbeech Caravan and Camping Site is a fabulous spot for a back-to-nature adventure that’ll make you feel like you’re light years away from everyday life.

Spacious grass pitches are tucked in among the trees in an open clearing, with stunning woodland views all around. And if you’re hoping to catch sight of the local wildlife, hopefully you won’t have to wait too long – the New Forest’s famed free-roaming ponies and deer are often seen grazing peacefully around the site.

The atmosphere at Longbeech is one of splendid isolation and proper peace, but in fact it’s not completely remote – the village of Fritham (all thatched cottages and ducks on the pond…) is actually only five minutes’ drive away. Stop off for a pint at its destination pub and you’re sure to see New Forest ponies wandering freely down the street. You’re also almost guaranteed to see the wild ponies wandering around Bramshaw (10 minutes’ drive away), if you go to pick up supplies from the well-stocked local shop.

For more wildlife spottings, a short family-friendly cycle ride takes you to Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary (20 minutes’ cycle) where fallow deer are often spied grazing in the meadows. And for a gentle introduction to walking in the New Forest, numerous way-marked hiking routes are accessible directly from your pitch.

‘Wild camping’ is very much the vibe here so it’s worth noting that there are no toilets, showers or electric connections at Longbeech.

Please note

This site has no on-site toilet and shower facilities.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Bookings must not be for more than 28 consecutive nights.

Customers must have their own chemical toilet and toilet tent (one per pitch) if not contained within a touring or tent unit already. Customers without facilities will not be allowed entry.

Our second time here, we love Longbeech, it’s quiet, peaceful and loved seeing the animals just strolling past the van.
My 6 yr old’s favourite place is the forest, loves playing in the puddles, finding sticks, exploring. And a wonder up to the ice cream van nearly opposite the site was good motivation out of the site where my son would happily stay.
    Can’t wait to return.

Beautiful site but some thoughtless campers makes it tricky08/09/2023

A beautiful location with loads of fantastic walks. The site is clean and has lots of water and waste points.

    Disliked:

Because you can pitch anywhere it actually makes it harder to find a suitable space. Some New Forest sites have small single-unit pitches but this site had larger areas. The problem was that several campers had pitched so that they effectively hogged the whole space - wherever we tried to pitch it felt like we were encroaching on their space. Eg They had parked near the only entrance and spread their stuff out to make it tricky to get past, or they’d pitched right in the centre of an area meaning that we were fairly close to them wherever we parked up around the edge. There was plenty of space but it’s a pity that some people are inconsiderate when they pitch up.

Local attractions

You don’t need to travel far to start exploring the New Forest National Park – just head out on one of the waymarked trails running from the site for a walk or a bike ride. You may well spot a fair bit of wildlife along the way, but if you’d like to be sure of what you’ll see, head to Liberty’s Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre (15 minutes’ drive) or the New Forest Wildlife Park (half an hour).

Day out around here aren’t all about the nature – it’s easy to mix up those outdoor activities with visits to places like Paultons Park, home of Peppa Pig World (15 minutes) or to swoon over classic engineering at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu and Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum (both half an hour).

Keep travelling south and you’ll hit the coast with a drive of half an hour or so – some of the top spots to visit include the ‘living museum’ of 18th-century Buckler’s Hard and the seaside town of Lymington, which has a saltwater swimming pool and several watersports centres as well as the terminal for the Isle of Wight ferries.

Must see

  • Paultons Family Theme Park (5.2 miles)
  • Exbury Gardens and Steam Railway (5.3 miles)
  • Breamore House (6.2 miles)

National Trust
