  • Peaceful wildlife haven on a farm in the Hampshire countryside
  • A 10-minute drive to Winchester and 20 minutes to the New Forest
  • On-site van serving food, with pubs and outdoor activities nearby
Want to meet both farm animals and wild ones on your holiday? Take a break at Springbridge Farm, a peaceful, friendly farm site just next to the River Itchen, surrounded by the wildlife of the Hampshire countryside. If the farm’s collection of friendly sheep and chickens aren’t enough, guests can get up close to nature by spotting water voles in the river or rare insects hiding in corners of the countryside. Within a 10-minute drive of Winchester and 20 minutes of the New Forest, this site is also well-placed for those looking to fill their days with fresh-air activities. For starters, any guests itching to take on the local terrain by foot or bicycle can join the Itchen Way footpath directly from the site. This 30-mile route follows the river all the way from Southampton to Winchester, with plenty of opportunities to rest and dip your feet in the water along the way (and if you stay still enough, you may spot some salmon on the way…) With more opportunities to cycle or hike in the moors and woodland of the New Forest, 20 minutes away, you'll need plenty of energy – so it's handy that there are several pubs serving substantial meals or real ales within a 10-minute drive. There are also several supermarkets and farm shops within 10 minutes of the site to stock up on essentials, and an on-site food van with hot food and drinks for those who've run out of energy to create their own.

Liked: Great big flat field which is fab Gate to the river - absolutely awesome feature Animals to look at! Owner came and said hello as we checked in and was really friendly Not something to dislike as the owner cannot control this and it didn’t actually affect us as we are used to it but the train, flight path and road could be considered loud for some people

Disliked: Marked lower on cleanliness/facilities due to the toilet block but it wasn’t the worst I’ve stayed in and was better than a portaloo!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Right next to the sheep! Lovely :) Pitch up wherever in the field Lovely sized field and space between us and other tents Beautiful river walk Really nice and chilled out owner Plenty of amenities nearby Lots of reviews complained about noise from Trains and planes. Yes it was noisy, so don’t go expecting silence, but my toddler LOVED seeing the planes so closely and a noisy campsite suits us with our noisy child.

Disliked: Toilet block was flooded most of the time and toilet roll ran out. Pitch up website says there’s a food van but unfortunately the owner was let down and it’s not available so needs to be removed from pitch up (we ordered takeaway to field really easily and there’s plenty of amenities close to campsite so wasn’t a big issue)

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Loved the location, easily accessible to shops for any essentials you may need. The river being so close was fantastic, the water is beautifully clear and shallow enough in places to have a refreshing little paddle. Our children loved being right next to the farm goats and there was plenty of space to play football and other family games. The owner came and asked if there was anything we needed and kindly provided us with information regarding local pubs that we enquired about.

Local attractions

Get rooted in nature in the moors and glades of the New Forest (20 minutes' drive), where there are a whole bunch of activities from archery and bushcraft to horse riding and kayaking. Closer to home, cyclists and hikers can hop directly from the site onto the 30-mile Itchen Way footpath, which snakes along the River Itchen. For more close encounters with animals, try Marwell Zoo (10 minutes), where snow leopards and Amur tigers prowl in 140 acres of grounds. You may also like to try the family-friendly theme park at Paultons Park (20 minutes), where kids under one metre go free and there are rides for every member of the family. Once you’re done with the rural views, swap in the dirt tracks for the stonier paths in Winchester, where you can stock up on local ales and gin in its many souvenir shops. A 10-minute drive away, the city's cathedral whisks you back into a pious medieval Britain. Alternatively, for something more prehistoric, the iconic landmark of Stonehenge (45 minutes) is one of the greatest mysteries you can uncover in the area.
