Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Everything! Our second stay and Clare ensured we had everything we needed. We’re quite local so it’s nice to have such a gorgeous space with amazing amenities to come to for the weekend. We loved the proper toilets and warm running water and the washing up facilities, although it was relatively busy the pitches are well laid out that it still feels secluded. Also love that they’re dog friendly, our pup had a lovely weekend roaming about our pitch.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: This site has big pitches with firepits in most - you can PYO pitch when you arrive which is nice, I chose a corner spot to the rear of the site as I like a quiet camp. The facilities are just what's needed, didn't count the showers but I think 4, plus toilets (more of those, plus two portaloos at the rear of the site so you didn't have to walk all the way to the top). Ice pack freezing and a washing up area are a must for me and there were both these things. The owner was lovely and friendly and it was easy to find, and I'd happily stay again.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Wide open spaces, relatively quiet site, good clean facilities, helpful staff & close to sustrans cycle route. Loved the sunsets, starry skies and hooting owls 🦉. Option for campfires.

Disliked: In exceptionally hot weather (not expected in mid-September 😆) no shaded areas. There will be once the trees and hedges grow. Some military noise/activity occasionally & if wind in wrong direction you can hear the noise from the main road.

Local attractions

In terms of sights and activities there are some headline acts around here, but you can pass an easy half day or two without straying too far. Footpaths crisscross the local area (one leading to Danebury's Iron Age fort), and National Cycle Route 246 also passes right by: this is a spectacular stretch you can pedal all the way through the North Wessex Downs up into Berkshire. Similarly close by, splat each other with paintballs and shoot each other with lasers a two-minute drive away at the local activity centre, or zip through the treetops on wires and ropes at Treerunners (10 minutes). For a more sedate time, tour the vines and sip the wines at Cottonworth, five minutes away. It's a half-hour drive to Neolithic Stonehenge and a similar distance to Highclere Castle, in use in one form or another since the eighth century and most recently as the set for British TV hit Downton Abbey. The surrounding North Wessex Downs are fine walking country, just as the elegant stately home and gardens at Hinton Ampner (40 minutes) make a good intro to the South Downs. More top walks and wildlife spotting can be had as the National Nature Reserve of ancient Langley Wood (40 minutes away) merges with the New Forest. To see some of that wildlife close up, the Hawk Conservancy Trust is 15 minutes away, with feeding and flying displays from the resident raptors.
