  • Simple but well-maintained Essex pitches in Little Leighs
  • A 20-minute drive to Chelmsford or Stansted Airport
  • Barbecue area on site; village shop and pub five minutes' drive
Perhaps you’d like a bit of time roaming the lanes of the Essex countryside, a convenient bargain base for Chelmsford, or somewhere handy to spend the night before/after a Stansted flight… Whatever draws you to these parts, a peaceful rural stay awaits at Little Leigh’s Campsite, in the pretty village of Little Leighs. Little Leighs is quite little indeed, but its bigger neighbour Great Leighs is about five minutes’ drive away for a village shop, a pub and a playground. The A131 is even closer, giving guests easy access to Chelmsford in one direction and the airport in the other (both about 20 minutes’ drive away). If you’re not heading off to further-flung places, there’s plenty to keep you occupied nearby, including a network of lovely rural footpaths to help you explore the local area. A country pub and a farm shop/café are within three miles, so you may like to plan a route that takes you via one of those for a meal or drink to help you on your way. This is a back to basics pop-up site with simple facilities in the form of toilets and a barbecue area. It’s a laidback place where campfires are allowed and you’re welcome to bring your dog along to join you (there’s a dedicated space where they can have a bit of a run around, and of course plenty of paths nearby for walks).

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Friendly host. Back to basics rural campsite in the grounds of a beautiful ancient Essex farm house. Surrounded by fruit trees and a peaceful setting.

Disliked: No shower and toilet long walk away from camping field.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The site was gorgeous and so quiet. We were welcomed and there was wood provided for us to use as well as a huge firepit. There was a very generous amount of space for us and some lovely local walks. There was only one toilet but it was kept clean.

Disliked: Wasn't a problem for us but there was no phone signal, might be an issue for others.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Nothing to make us come back

Disliked: I don’t even know where to start, first of all this campsite is in their backyard, is not really a campsite it’s a bigger garden so not so much privacy, second… no bins so you’ll have to take the rubbish with you or just leave it there on the field, noise in the evening a lot from tractors or whatever, drinking water from a tap that they use with a hose for garden and is not even close to where you stay, the “campsite” is very small they say that it accommodates 30 tents… is more like 10 maybe. And finally the toilets…. Just horrible never seen something like that ever it looked like Freddy Krueger’s nightmare, and when he was asked about it he said that it’s been a while since he’s been there, so the toilet is never clean and is only one for apparently 30 tents. We had to set up our own toilet and no bin to throw the rubbish, how can you not have a bin for 30 tents? Clearly thinking about money and not people. 5 stars for the owner of the farm he was nice, 1 star for the son ( campsite manager) he was arrogant
