General views

General

  • Peaceful site with lake views on 220 acres of private land
  • A 15-minute drive from Herstmonceux Castle; Bexhill-on-Sea 20 minutes
  • Wild swimming, tea rooms, food shop and sports pitches

Hols near lakes are – quite rightly – all the rage, so how about settling down for a stint surrounded by three of them? Ashburnham Place Camping is a smashing south-facing site close to the East Sussex coastline and natural havens of High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

This spot is also home to more than a little outstanding beauty of its own – these landscaped grounds have a walled garden, secret grotto and several woodland and lakeside trails. Ashburnham Place Camping is a sizeable spot indeed, so bring your bike along if you're looking to explore all its scenic nooks and crannies.

Fancy a bracing swim? Get down to the lake for a refreshing (and fully lifeguarded) outdoor dip. Feel free to bring your kayak, canoe or other launch, too. Back on dry land, you can sort a kickabout at the five-a-side pitches or fix a game of volleyball (nets provided).

Staying on an English country estate comes with a massive range of perks, but for foodies tucking into a scrummy cream tea at the on-site café (housed in an orangery, no less) is pretty sure to be a major highlight. You can also drop by the on-site food shop or sort a barbecue (please make sure that everything is safely off the grass if grilling your own grub).

Please note

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Lake Swimming: access to the swimming pool is not included in the rate and is charged £3.00 per adult and £2.00 per child per session.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

Group bookings of 3 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

We loved the beautiful surrounding, the lake was stunning and there were a alot of very scenic walk around the woods with further lakes.
The staff on-site were extremely nice and very helpful and polite. We arrive later than 5pm and the duty manager could not have been more helpful and accommodating in helping us to set up camp.
Toilets were very clean all with toilet roll.

    Disliked:

Loud children. We were unable to get a fire pit until the final evening as they had ran out but they were very apologetic about this. There was a small shop on site with all the essentials however not ice, but not an issue as we drove out to tesco express about a 10 minutes drive away to stock up.
