  • Luxury caravan with stunning Brede Valley views in rural East Sussex
  • Bodiam Boating Station 15 minutes’ drive; Camber Sands 25 minutes
  • Adults-only hideaway with alfresco seating, firepit and outdoor bath
For splendid vistas over East Sussex’s Brede Valley, it’s quite hard to beat The View, a self-catering caravan set in an 11-acre field 15 minutes’ drive from pretty Rye. This is a spot surrounded by wild nature, where deer flit among the trees, and you are free to explore the private wood and listen to the wind rustling through the treetops. But back to your accommodation. The comfy caravan has a fully equipped kitchen with fridge-freezer, cooker and kettle, plus a dining area and lounge. Designed for couples on a peaceful retreat, there is a king-size bed and ensuite shower. All bedding and towels are provided for your stay. Outside, you can relax and take in the views under the sunshade, chill in the hammock on warmer days, or conjure up a picnic and enjoy a bit of alfresco dining around the firepit. Up the romance factor by steaming in a hot bubble bath among the trees, or try some yoga, read a book, play a game, enjoy a glass of wine… have an adventure or just sit and think. This is your time and your space, so do whatever makes you happy. Now for some practical bits: the caravan is run by solar panels and gas, so there is no mains electricity, no wifi and the TV can only be used for watching DVDs. Phone chargers are supplied, as is a hairdryer and straighteners, but there is no shaving plug socket.

Tree Tops 1 bedroom on-site touring caravan

Liked: I could not recommend this place enough - the pictures really do not do it justice! The caravan is extremely clean and has everything you could possibly need. The site itself is completely private and secluded and although we did venture out to nearby Rye and Camber Sands, we could have easily spent the weekend relaxing in the field and adjoining woods. The highlight had to be the bath in the middle of the woods, a short walk away from the caravan. It is slightly surreal to stroll down through the woods (in robes provided) to find a beautiful large bath placed in a clearing. Candles, bubble bath and wine glasses provided in order to provide a truly special experience and one I will not forget. Kiersty and Darren were brilliant hosts and easily contactable throughout our stay. A special thank you to them for creating such a wonderful space that I'm sure will be enjoyed by many. It is hands down one of my favourite places I have ever stayed and I will be retuning at the earliest possible opportunity!

Disliked: Nothing!

Local attractions

Looking for action-packed days out? First stop might be Bodiam Boating Station (15 minutes’ drive) to hire canoes and paddleboards or go wild swimming. Bewl Water (half an hour) offers a choice of scrambling around on inflatables in the Aqua Park, or hiking and cycling woodland footpaths. More physical energy is demanded for tackling high ropes and obstacles courses at Go Ape Bedgebury Pinetum (25 minutes). Delve into East Sussex industrial heritage to marvel at the steam-powered machinery housed in former engine houses at Brede Steam Giants (five minutes), or spend the day touring richly decorated rooms and stunning gardens at moated Leeds Castle (50 minutes). Visit National Trust-owned Chartwell (an hour) to see Winston Churchill’s treasure-filled family home, laid out as it was in the 1930s. To dodge the history altogether, hike over dunes and a dip in the sea at Camber Sands (25 minutes), take a romantic stroll along the shingle at often-almost-deserted Winchelsea Beach (20 minutes), or combine a day on the coast with birdwatching for swans, terns and oystercatchers in Rye Harbour Nature Reserve (20 minutes).
