Damson Field Rustic Camping: Full-sized pitches with generous spacing

General

  • Pop-up meadow camping overlooking Bodiam Castle in rural East Sussex
  • A 20-minute drive to Sissinghurst Castle Garden and Go Ape Bedgebury
  • Wildlife on site; easy walk to pubs; stately homes and beaches nearby

Damson Field Rustic Camping is a small and peaceful pop-up site set in a 10-acre field in East Sussex countryside, overlooking Bodiam Castle and near the village of Ewhurst Green. The vibe here is very much all about nature, so you can camp among fruit trees and relish the wildlife and seclusion.

Owners Terry and Lynda (ably assisted by the ever-smiling Nathan) welcome you to cosy up around the campfire, light the barbecue, toast marshmallows or simply chill with a book.

If you take a stroll around the ancient orchard at sunset, you might be lucky enough to spot badgers, deer and pheasants, and after dark you can watch the stars glittering in the night sky. There are a handful of traditional pubs in Bodiam village (20 minutes’ walk, no need to take the car) if you feel like upping the pace.

As this is wild camping, there is no electricity but separate portaloos and a standpipe with fresh water are available. Kindling and firelighters are provided for a small charge, and you can borrow firepits on site.

A few site rules: no ball games please, and noise is to be kept to an absolute minimum between 11pm and 8am to allow all guests to get a well-earned night’s sleep. The owners ask that you take all your rubbish home with you too.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Children must be back at their pitch with their family by 9pm.

The location of the field was perfect with a great view of Bodiam Castle and the surrounding countryside. Was met by Terry who was both welcoming and accommodating at all times. Also met with Nathan who was extremely helpful in trying to find the correct pump for our air awning, as we left ours at home. Definitely a 10/10 camp site.

    Disliked:

We can honestly say there was nothing about this camp site or our stay which we disliked.
