Being completely surrounded by the gorgeous East Sussex countryside is a wonderful thing… but then so is staying in a location where you’ll be able to walk to the village pub in just a few minutes.
The good news is that both aspects can be found in one place at Barcombe Yurts, a glampsite in a peaceful and attractive meadow about 10 minutes’ walk from the village of Barcombe – and its pub (with tasty meals and a skittle alley), of course. And that’s not it on the pub front either, because if you turn in the other direction a walk of half an hour or so (or a five-minute drive) gets you to another option, this time in a riverside spot where you can hire boats or launch paddleboards.
It’s not all about the proximity of pubs though – this family-run site is also a very comfortable place to stay, with accommodation in spacious yurts (with good head height) that have been nicely spaced around a field flanked by woodland and a stream. Each yurt has a proper double bed with a high-quality mattress, and there are self-inflating single airbeds available for the kids if needed. Pillows and a double bed duvet are provided (pillows and blankets for the singles) but you’ll need to bring bed linen, pillowcases and towels, plus single duvets if you want them.
Other bits of furnishing in the yurt include rugs and fairy lights, plus camping chairs and a firepit for outdoor evenings. A washing-up area, good-quality compost toilets and open-top showers are a short walk from the yurts.

Dogs
- The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

- Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.
- There are no bins onsite: all rubbish will need to be taken home with you.
- This is a quiet site: no music is allowed.

- If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.
- No electric barbecues allowed.
- Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Nearby Barcombe has a pub but not a shop, so you’ll probably need to head to Lewes (10 minutes’ drive) for supplies at some point – and while you’re there it’s worth leaving some time for a wander around, taking in the castle and Anne of Cleves House Museum, and picking up snacks for a pitstop in Southover Grange Gardens.
For more of the area’s heritage, visit National Trust - Monk's House and Firle Place (both 20 minutes) or take a ride on the Lavender Line from Isfield (10 minutes). Meanwhile, garden fans may like to explore Driftwood by Sea (25 minutes) and Kipling Gardens (half an hour) while swimmers take an outdoor dip at Pells Pool (10 minutes) and wine enthusiasts visit Rathfinny Wine Estate (half an hour).
