  • Family-friendly park half an hour's walk from Hastings Old Town
  • In the High Weald National Landscape; next to Hastings Country Park
  • Indoor pool, two bars, a restaurant and small shop at reception
Pack your bags pronto for this family break: Shear Barn Holidays and Touring caters for all ages, and is a 30-minute country-park walk away from the East Cliff railway overlooking Hastings Old Town. Family-friendly facilities, a helpful team, spacious pitches and three clean amenities blocks are some of the highlights at this family-friendly park. That's on top of the excellent location within walking distance of the seaside town's restaurants, pubs, shops and historic buildings like Hastings Castle. If you're craving a slower pace after a lively day in Hastings, you might be pleased to hear about The Retreat Bar & Restaurant, the main on-site bar, which serves traditional meals and hosts regular weekend entertainment. The House Bar, the site's smaller and pet-friendly venue, is a nice pick for barista coffee and a fresh pastry after a swim in the indoor heated swimming pool. There's also plenty to keep kids occupied, from the outdoor play area to the small soft play area at the main bar. The site permits firepits and barbecues, and handily, essentials can be picked up at the small shop at reception.

Local attractions

It's about half an hour's walk from the site to the East Hill Cliff Railway or East Hill Lift, for views from the funicular as it descends to Hastings Old Town. Wander around the Old Town's shops, cafés and pubs from here, then have a stroll along the prom a couple of minutes' walk away to the shingle beach and renovated Hastings Pier. Shear Barn is on the edge of Hastings Country Park for miles' worth of walks and bike rides along its 853 acres of woodland, cliffs, grassland and meadow. Wildlife watching is plentiful around here as the park is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and the views from the clifftops are spectacular, of the coastline from Beachy Head to Dungeness and on clear days as far as Folkestone and the northern coast of France. Other outdoor options nearby include cycling around the 13-mile network of tracks of Bedgebury Forest, or windsurfing, rowing, canoeing, sailing and fishing for pike and trout at Bewl Water; both are within 45 minutes' drive. A mile-high sandstone crag to clamber is at Harrison's Rocks, around an hour's drive from the park.
