  • Peaceful family-friendly site in East Sussex
  • 10 mins from site of Battle of Hastings; 15 mins from Hastings town
  • Five minutes from Sussex vineyards
Planning your getaway doesn’t have to feel like launching a military campaign – at Meadowview Park, a peaceful and secluded site less than 10 minutes from the town of Battle in East Sussex, it’s a breeze. This part of Sussex is 1066 country, so diving into the history of the battle that changed the course of England is a must – at the site of the world-famous Battle of Hastings, less than 10 minutes’ drive from Meadowview, explore the ruins of an abbey built by William the Conqueror, follow the sculpture trail, visit the gatehouse exhibition and climb to the abbey’s roof for views over the battlefield. There are plenty of pleasant walks in the area around Meadowview, so bring Rex along and he can have a break too – there's space to have a walk around the park as long as dogs are kept on a lead. When you’re feeling peckish, fire up the barbecue or get that campfire burning to sort dinner. You can get all the essentials in Hastings, 15 minutes from the site, or head to one of the restaurants within 10 minutes of Meadowview. Wash down dinner with a drink at the pub in Sedlescombe, 15 minutes' walk away, and grab sweets and ice-cream for dessert at the small shop on site.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked: Lovely little site with very friendly staff- a lot of seasonal caravanners and the ones we spoke to were all very friendly as well. Nice and tidy site - we stayed on a hardstanding with grass electric pitch which was nice and level and easy to manoeuvre on to. Toilets/showers clean and tidy. Nicely situated for Battle/Hastings/Rye etc. There is a garden centre a short walk away with has a great cafe serving delicious food - there is however a small cafe (which we didn't try) and a bar on site . Will definitely be back for another visit.

Disliked: No play area for little ones - also, due to no fault to the campsite- there were road/gas/water works just outside the entrance (which staff said started around October 2024 time) and a generator kept kicking in about every 15 minutes all day and night!

From the manager: Sorry for no play area also the road works which is work that had to be done hope to see you soon

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Super friendly and helpful owners and staff made us feel very welcome and at home and looked after us the whole time. Good banter too! Great facilities with a cafe bar and shop on site which was great for us as we travelled on foot so didn’t have cooking stuff with us. Beautiful nature and hikes nearby and vineyards. Garden centre opposite was lovely and had a restaurant with great quality food. Lovely pubs nearby in walking distance too 10-15 mins. Would definitely recommend and no complaints! Thank you!

Electric optional gravel touring pitch

Liked: The friendliness and helpfulness of the owners, they were only too happy to help.

We stayed on a hard standing pitch, which was not quite level but easily sorted. It had plenty of room.

The cafe food was lovely and we had a roast on the Sunday, which they put on plates for us so we could eat it back at our caravan.

The site is lovely and quiet during the night.

Disliked: Having communal toilets and showers, also the toilets were in the shower cubicles so in the mornings when everyone is showering, there is no access to additional toilets.

There was no TV reception or wifi at all but this wasn't a problem for us.

This is my only dislikes.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked: Great site, friendly staff, good sized plots for tents and a fun bar, pool room and coffee shop again with friendly staff.

Can't answer the question about WiFi below as I didn't use it.

Disliked: Site was slightly difficult to locate because of the road closure directly outside the entrance. Perhaps some signs on the road leading down to the site would be useful.

Liked: Great welcome onto site and shown to my pitch. Good nights sleep

Disliked: Even with my chocks on I couldn’t get to a level pitch.
Site was difficult to find due to the road closure directly outside the entrance. Maybe a sign up the road could help?

Local attractions

You don’t have to go far from Meadowview to get your fill of sightseeing. The coastal town of Hastings is a 15-minute drive from the site – explore the streets of the Old Town, visit the museums and the ruins of the 11th-century Hastings Castle, climb to the skies on the East Hill Cliff Railway funicular or dive below the ground at St Clements Caves. Not all of the stately homes near Meadowview are in ruins, and some have interesting literary links: the Georgian Lamb House in Rye was home to Henry James, Bateman’s in Burwash is where Rudyard Kipling lived until his death, and Monk’s House, an hour away, was the retreat of Virginia Woolf. Away from novelists, the spectacular 14th-century moated castles of Bodiam and Scotney are both within half an hour of the site. There’s more to this part of the country than history and it might even surprise you. When you think of wine regions, you possibly think of France, Italy and Chile – well, now you can add Sussex to that mental list… Grab your sober buddy and head for tours and tastings at Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard or Carr Taylor Wines, both within five minutes of Meadowview, or Kingscote Estate, Court Garden Vineyard, Ridgeview Winery or Bluebell Vineyard, all around an hour away. For more kid-friendly activities, head to the aquarium in Hastings or join in Smugglers Adventure at St Clements Cave.
