The Bullpen cottage / chalet / bungalow

Liked: We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this holiday home and couldn't recommend it more. From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The location was stunning—nestled in a peaceful, quiet area with beautiful surroundings and fresh air. It was also easy to find and had plenty of convenient parking right on-site, which made coming and going a breeze. The home itself had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. It was fully equipped with all the essentials for cooking, from pots and pans to utensils and basic supplies, which made it easy to whip up meals when we wanted. The WiFi was fast and reliable, so we could stay connected throughout our trip, whether for work or leisure. Anne, our host, was truly exceptional. She was always available when we needed anything and incredibly responsive to any questions we had. Her helpfulness really made the experience even better. One thing that stood out was how convenient it was to order food. Each night, we used Uber to get takeout from Lancaster, which added a nice variety to our meals without any hassle. It’s a great option if you want the best of both worlds—having the ability to cook or enjoy local restaurants without needing to drive. Overall, this is a perfect getaway spot, and we can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a serene retreat with all the comforts of home!

Disliked: Nothing to dislike!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The hosts couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. Great facilities, a beautiful quiet site with spectacular views over Morecambe Bay. Great brewery with a bar and canteen (Old School Brewery) only 20-30min walk down the road. All topped off with coffee and croissants on-site in the morning from 8. Toilets and showers best I’ve ever used on a campsite. All round great experience (despite the weather), will definitely be coming back. Thank you.

Bell tent (basic)

Liked: Can’t fault this place. Great little site with fabulous shower and bathroom facilities. Anne and Martyn were so welcoming and lovely hosts . Our two children loved Red the dog who was a frequent visitor to our tent, they also loved the farms horses and cattle. Amazing views from the campground and the owners do not allow to many people to stay so there’s plenty of room between pitches. Will definitely return, hopefully when the weather is a little warmer.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: There is not one thing you won't like about this camp. It's peaceful, the views are phenomenal, the facilities are pristine and the owners, Martin and Anne, are the most friendly and welcoming people that are on hand if you need help. I took my autistic daughter who doesn't always cope with change and new people, but the camp was so relaxed and spacious she didn't stop smiling. The camp is electronically gated that only visitors can use making it feel secure and has lovely animals on site including the owners lovely dog Red who joined us for breakfast and cuddles. The Scar bucks coffee and croissants van in the morning was a lovely add to our stay. We will be 100% returning.

Disliked: Nothing, only that we didn't stay longer

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Site is run by an incredibly friendly and welcoming couple. There is loads of space and as there is no EHU you can pitch where you like which meant pitch spaces were generous with a choice of an incredible sea view but feeling the force of the wind off the bay or in the dip which is more sheltered. There is a pop up coffee shop (Scar Bucks!) from 8 till 9 serving coffee, tea, hot chocolate and croissants. The toilet / shower block is new, warm and kept spotlessly clean. We went with our own tent but there are bell tents and bothies on site which looked fab. Fire pits are available to hire. The people who own the site also keep highland cows which is really novel and at our time of staying there were a couple of calves as well. The village of Warton is within walking distance (though care is needed on the narrow lane) where there are a couple of pubs and a micro brewery that do food. Carnforth is a 5/10 minute drive where you’ll find a range of shops, a couple of supermarkets and transport links via bus and train to Lancaster one way and the Lakes the other. The site only opens until the end of August but the bothies are available all year round.

Disliked: Absolutely nothing. One tiny suggestion would be for coat hooks on the back of the toilet doors.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Views from the camping field; excellent toilet facilities, washing-up facilities, charging point for phone; electronic system to open close access gate (once you have given your vehicle reg of course); early morning sale of warm croissants and coffeee; really helpful owners!; livestock to view over the farm wall; freedom to choose a pitch wherever available; very friendly dog "Red" who will keep you company in exchange fro croissant crumbs. Warton Quarry nature reserve close by and a micro-brewery at the bottom of the access hill.

Disliked: Can be windy depending on where you choose ! Best sea views are also exposed to on-shore winds...but there are more sheltered pitches with less of a view. Much of the field has a slope. The only drawback of this excellent site is beyond the control of the owners - namely the fast traffic on the narrow access road from the village - we got hit by the straw bales on a tractor trailer - driver was determined just to squeeze past, but equally other drivers were often reluctant to give way. Be aware!

From the manager: Thank you John Lovely to meet you both 😊

Local attractions

In addition to elegant interiors and expansive parkland, Leighton Hall Estate (10 minutes’ drive) runs a lively programme of events, which includes falconry displays, plant fairs and craft markets. A little further up the road, the wetlands of RSPB Leighton Moss are home to egrets, harriers and red deer. Take a stroll along the wide promenade that hugs the bay at Morecambe (25 minutes), stopping for a selfie next to the statue of British comedian Eric Morecambe. Close to the seafront, there are also a bowling alley, a trampoline park and a skatepark, so the kids should have plenty to keep them occupied while you take a tour of the Morecambe Winter Gardens theatre (Easter–October). On the banks of Lake Windermere, the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (40 minutes) recreates the fictional universe of beloved characters like Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle-Duck. After that, you can cross the lake and visit National Trust - Hill Top (50 minutes), the cottage where the children’s author lived and worked.
