  • Laidback family-friendly farm site close to the Merseyside coast
  • A 10-minute drive from Southport and 20 minutes from Formby
  • Play area and small pool on site; walking distance to farm shop
Fancy a bit of family farm fun, mixed up with days spent splashing about at the seaside? Make your way to Merseyside and a stay at Jacksmere Camping, a farm site 10 minutes’ drive from Southport. Tucked away in a rural location, in high season this is a place where kids can scramble about at a straw-bale play area, jump about on a bouncy castle (inflated for an hour in the morning and again in the evening) and splash about in a small above-ground pool that gets put up and filled daily in warmer weather. There are ponies to meet on site too, and rides may be available at times if you ask nicely. All of this adds up to a lively family atmosphere in the school holidays; outside of these times, there's usually a more chilled-out vibe on site. Pitches here are nicely flat and have access to essential facilities including wifi and clean and functional toilets and showers. If campfires are a key part of your outdoor break, you can hire a firepit on site and get a blaze going for a cosy evening of stories as the sun goes down. Fires are only allowed in the site’s rental firepits, so please don’t bring your own. There’s wood for sale on site too – again please don't bring your own. Dogs are welcome on site but you’ll need to keep them on leads at all times because of the ponies (and other guests). There are plenty of local footpaths for walks short or long. This well-connected site is an easy 10-minute drive from Southport, a popular seaside spot where there's much to see and do. Handily, the site is also a 20-minute stroll from two restaurants and an organic farm shop, while the Lord Street shopping area can be reached within about 10 minutes by car.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely one night stay. Basic facilities but it’s all we needed for one night. Clean toilets and shower.

Loved the animals and the field was safe and enclosed for our 2 year old to not escape.

Slide and an inflatable for the kids and we rented a fire pit for the night to toast some marshmallows.

Brilliant stay owner really friendly would stay again.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Ignore any horrible reviews! I have just come home after being there 2 nights. Arrived Friday tea time with my two daughters (25 and 16) and my grandson (5). Dave greeted us. We pitched our tent and he came over to have a chat, very nice, down to earth bloke. We got a fire pit with wood £20 which is what we normally pay at other sites. He even lit our fire for us! We had forgotten chairs and sat on towels. When we woke Saturday morning Dave had out 4 chairs outside our tent for us to use. We didn’t ask - he did this just to be thoughtful. And we appreciated it. There was a campfire on the Saturday night I don’t know if this is every week. Dave had a small inflatable, a slide, a trampoline and a blow up paddling pool in the field for the kids. These are old and very well used, but kids don’t care about that, good old fashioned, no frills, little apparatus to help keep little ones occupied. There were 3 small horses in our field which we loved - they were put away in the evening. We loved this. Friendly, no bother. The toilets and shower aren’t great but always had loo roll and we took them for what they were. Would we stay again - yes. Dave was lovely, and I haven’t had that service anywhere else and we’ve stayed in many fields. Also it’s literally minutes from Southport and an hours drive to Blackpool. Thank you Dave we have some lovely memories.

Disliked: If I had to say something it would be the toilets and shower however we are talking about camping in a field so my opinion is “we had real toilets and a shower” which is better than none at all. If you want luxury/modern/new toilets/shower then stay at a holiday park.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: It is located in a quiet area, away from the main road. The structure is very basic, but the owner is extremely friendly and helpful.
The bouncy castle and small pool with a slide for young children are a nice addition.
The large campfire in the evening was a very pleasant surprise.
10 min drive from Southport attractions.

Disliked: There could be more walking paths in the area.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Brilliant landowner with lots of local facilities available
felt at ease at all times lovely animals free roaming in the day

Disliked: Toilet and shower facilities do need updating but as long as your not expecting a hot tub you'll be fine

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Nice place to camp, pond near by and not far to go to visit the beaches during the day my kids enjoyed the weekend here.

Disliked: Only thing I had problems was when it was bed time and quite times is ment to be after 11 trying to get our kids sleep while other camping think It was ok to blast must till 2 am and kids were still playing shouting gone past half 12 didn't get much sleep but it's not owners fault just wish other campers where a bit more consideration for others sleeping.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Good location with clean facilities

Disliked: No bins onsite meaning we had to take rubbish home, not expected for the above average price for a basic site. Owner arguing with guests about pitches. Very packed in for pitches on a weekend.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are a popular site and it was a very busy weekend
However THERE ARE AND ALWAYS HAVE BEEN A FULL RANGE OF BINS ON SITE

There was argument with any campers they simply had an oversized tent which no non commercial site would accept
However we did find them a spot which they them selves selected

Do not go to this campsite

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Was a nice scenic spot such a shame it’s ran so poorly and rudely.

Disliked: Unfortunately we was really disappointed with Jacksmere camping and will not be returning. The owner was very rude and didn’t have an electric pitch (which we paid extra for) when we arrived so tried to tell us to pitch up in a really tight spot in front of the toilets with huge muddy puddles. We have 2 large tents so When I called him out on this he basically called me thick so we went as far as we could away from him. He never apologised about this and was trying to antagonise my dogs with his dog and then was really rude again when we was packing up. The facilities are very poor and it’s very dirty (we have camped for many years and haven’t experienced this before). We ended up just going out of the campsite for both nights stay spending money on eating out for breakfast and teas so we didn’t have to be there. It’s such a shame as it has huge potential but it made me extremely upset to be treated in such a way

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: The vast majority campers had a great time
But when people turn up with oversize tents and despite there being 4 spare slots - couldn’t not slot them in - it’s there fault

Nor am I ever rude to anybody which is evidenced by the hugs and fond waves I get when people depart

Cheap and cheerful

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Nothing at all.
We had booked for 2 nights and packed up and left at 07.30 after just 1 night.!

We liked the 'traveller's' feel about this site !
We liked the 'attitude' of the owner !
We liked the 'authentic' mud pit outside the toilets !
We liked the 'game' of step over the water with the electric cable in it on the way to the toilets !
We liked the 'jovial' comment from the owner that people on this site are to drunk to walk to cars never mind drive them !
We liked the 'fire regulation' 1 . 5 meter distance between most tents as they were that crammed in (and most had fire pits going) !
We liked the 'surprise' that you can't park next to your tent although there is no mention of this on Pitchup !
We liked the 'signage' that then stated the owner is not responsible for theft of any cars or valuables.
We liked the 'verbal abuse' that my fiancee got when she walked the dog on the dog field across the road that we were told we could use !
We liked that the 'camping' field was actually a donkey field !
We liked 'conqurin' with most other reviews that this site is terrible.
We liked the 'bargain' of a price which was MORE than we have paid on loads of other Pitchup sites with a real camping feel, charm, cleanliness, pleasant owners and well kept pitches.
We will like the 'feedback' that this owner will no doubt leave to this as he doesn't seem to like having the truth pointed out in these reviews.
And we loved leaving.

Disliked: See above !!!!
