Bell tents in the morning

  • Bell tent glamping five minutes' drive from Kirkby Lonsdale
  • On the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park
  • Family-sized tents with firepit/barbecue provided; dogs welcome
An escape to the countryside comes with an extra layer of comfort and convenience at Lunesdale Escapes, where guests stay in spacious and well-equipped bell tents at a park five minutes' drive from Kirkby Lonsdale. This is a fabulous Lancashire location, on the western edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and within easy reach of both the Lake District and Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty too. Getting out to any/all of these is straightforward, as the site is just off the A65 for speedy journeys without any little winding lanes. You may not be in that much of a hurry to leave, however, as the bell tents are rather cosy and comfy… Each one is pitched on a wooden deck to ensure things stay solid and dry underfoot, and provide dedicated outdoor space for alfresco dining and stargazing (outdoor dining furniture and a firepit/barbecue are provided to help such activities along…) Inside, the tents have a double bed and two single fold-out futons, all with bedding provided. Electric points have been installed too, as have appliances like an electric heater, kettle, mini fridge and bedside lamp. Shared facilities close to the tents include bathrooms, a washing-up area and a launderette. You’re welcome to bring dogs along for a stay in the tents, but please note they’ll need to be kept on leads while around the site.

Bell tent

Liked: Located nicely near the walking routes. Toilets and showers were clean. Free bbq/fire pit and logs to purchase if needed. The bed was comfy enough.

Disliked: Very loud next to a busy main road meaning very early wake up call. Would benefit from a couple more plug sockets as they give you a double extension to plug in a double extension? Doesn’t really make sense. You couldn’t have the heater on too long or high as it tripped or smelt like burning. It said WiFi but couldn’t even find a router to connect to bud not end of the world as wouldn’t really use ourselves. If it wasn’t for the main road the stay would have been much better.

Bell tent

Liked: Everything!!!!! Fantastic spacious bell tent. Cleanliness and presentation was 10/10 Very very comfortable double bed with outstanding and plentiful bed linen Very adequate fridge for those night time beers to chill throughout the day. Extra power socket too, plus a double socket extension lead for the bedside light and also for, like us, the laptop at night to easily connect to the site's decent WiFi (Netflix and chill etc) On-site toilet/shower facilities excellent. Reading other reviews, yes, there's a main A-road running close by, but we weren't disturbed by any traffic noise (we stayed on a Tuesday and Wednesday night). The provided firepit was perfect, and doubled as a fabulous barbeque too (firelogs, kindling, and firestarters available on-site by way of an honesty-box system) Tracey and her family run a brilliant site that we would never hesitate in recommending to anyone

Disliked: Nothing

Bell tent

Liked: Beautifully laid out bell tent. Fridge super handy. Double bed very comfy Fire bowl was perfect - easy to contain fire and use. Cleanliness and how easy it is to get to toilets and pot wash Really easy to get hold of campsite staff for any questions and they message you where you’ll be staying before. We barely saw anyone in the facilities and never had to wait to use them! Very very clean too.

Bell tent

Liked: The teepee had everything you could hope for! Which meant i didnt have to bring so much with me. Fridge ✔️ heater ✔️ electricity ✔️ comfortable beds and bedding ✔️

Disliked: Traffic!!!! I hadn’t realised how close to the road the site actually was! Beautiful site and amenities but the proximity to the road (unless one had copious amounts of alcohol) was problematic - the traffic ran on the road most of the night!

Bell tent

Liked: We've just come back from a 2 night stay and honestly we loved it. Can't recommend this place enough. The bell tent was presented lovely and clean. Everything you need there. Toilets/showers were super clean and warm. One thing we panic about is the communal areas as we've stayed in a few bad ones before but this was by far the best. Was lovely to meet Tracey too who was very accommodating. Nice size field for the kids to play football and other games on also great amount of space between each bell tent. Felt very safe with the kids. We will definitely be back soon. Thank you for a great stay Nikita, Martyn and boys xx

Disliked: No dislikes at all. Couldn't fault our stay

Bell tent

Liked: We loved the bell tent. Worked really well with a baby and a 6 year old. Loved that it had electricity and a heater. The grounds around it are immaculate. Shower/ toilet area immaculate too. Brilliant that you can get logs etc for the fire, we used it as a bbq. There was seating there on our decking. Just minimised the amount we had to bring. It all worked really well, I was a little worried as my baby is 1 and not yet walking, but there were no hazards around and I felt comfortable enough to let him crawl around the tent and even outside on the grass and decking. We loved the whole experience. I saw some reviews mentioning about noisy traffic from near by. To be honest it didn’t affect our stay in the slightest, once you’ve heard it you sort of can’t tell it’s there. Don’t let it put you off booking! There is loads to do nearby too, we went to an open farm, to the beach, devils bridge for a picnic. Excellent location!

Bell tent

Liked: Lunesdale Escapes was a wonderful glamping site with clean and comfortable tents, with a heater, fridge and a hot water kettle. We enjoyed our time very much and even got the fire going to roast some marshmallows. The toilets are exceptionally clean and it hardly felt like we were roughing it out at all. The location is near to many lovely trails in the dales, and easy to get to. The hosts were also friendly and flexible in the check in time. We will definitely be back!

Bell tent

Liked: Such a nice place to stay. The toilets/showers are clean and warm. We stayed with our children and small dog in one of the beautifully decorated bell tends with lots of inside and outside space. Perfect distance from your neighbours. Kettle, heater, bedding, fridge, bbq/fireplace everything there. We loved it and will come back!

Disliked: The busy road is a bit loud

Local attractions

Kirkby Lonsdale (five minutes' drive) is a great place to kick off a walk – from the centre of town you can head out over the Devil’s Bridge to stroll along the riverbank and up to the viewpoint known as Ruskin’s View, or follow one of the circular routes that run from the town into the surrounding area. There’s a golf course just outside the town too if that’s your preferred method of taking in the scenery. Being on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, all sorts of walks and bike rides await there too – the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail (10 minutes) is a favourite, as are trails taking in the Ribblehead Viaduct (20 minutes). White Scar Cave (10 minutes) gives you the chance to see what sits under the surface, while a scramble up the slopes of Ingleborough (15 minutes) offers up views from up on high. Once you’ve taken in the Dales scenery, you may like to explore the different landscapes of the Lake District National Park – Windermere (half an hour) is a good place to target for watersports, lake cruises and waterside walks.
