Northwood Caravan and Holiday Park: Awnings welcome

General

  • Well-maintained, adults-only touring park in the Ribble Valley
  • A 15-minute drive to Clitheroe and 40 minutes to Yorkshire Dales
  • Easy access from the M6; restaurants a couple of minutes' walk away

A countryside location but with easy motorway access and restaurants a few minutes’ walk away? That’s the fine mix you’ll get at Northwood Caravan and Holiday Park, a family-run park in Lancashire’s lovely Ribble Valley.

It’s a peaceful setup indeed here, as it’s an adults-only park with plenty of space to relax on the touring pitches and take in the views over Longridge Fell. The team that run the site take great pride in their place, as you’ll note from the pics of the beautifully maintained and landscaped grounds.

Equally well maintained are the facilities, which include water and electric hookups and a smart modern amenities block (opened for the 2021 season) with top-notch showers, a laundry area and accessible bathroom facilities.

This is a popular area for walkers so bring your boost along: as well as the Ribble Valley itself there are miles more trails nearby along the coast, in the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Being about 10 minutes’ drive from the M6 also means it’s easy to get to the Lake District with minimal fuss. If you need any advice on where to walk, have a chat with the owners – they’ll happily point you towards their favourite spots.

For eats, there’s an Italian or an Indian restaurant a couple of minutes’ walk away, and there are several other pubs and places to eat within five minutes’ drive (plus a Michelin-starred number 10 minutes away). Whalley and Blackburn are both about 10 minutes’ drive away for shops and places to eat.

Please note

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

A charge of £0.20 applies for the use of the shower.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

Group bookings of 2 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests under the age of 21 are not allowed on site.

Tents are not accepted at this park.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

A cable measuring at least 5 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

Bookings must not consist of more than 1 different households.

Friendly welcome. Best site I have stayed at. Everything on this wonderful site was spotless. Showers and toilets were 5 star. Great pride is take to keep the standers this high. Everyone staying at this site were respectful of the rules on recycling and cleaning up after there dog. You would not know that dogs had been aloud on this site. Very quiet and peaceful. Pitches were level and well distanced apart. Perfect for a restful break. Will be returnI got next year.

Clean and friendly. Lovely toilet and shower block too. It was very organised and just what we needed.

    Disliked:

The only criticism is the lack of changing area after showering. The showers were nice clean and hot, but once shower had finished there was nowhere to store dry clean clothes or to dry off in private. I found myself getting dry and changed in the sink area which was in full view of men's toilet door if anyone had opened the door. However, this is a minor issue and isn't worth taking a star away as it is lovely to have clean and new facilities.

The site is lovely well set out grass trees plants and plenty of room between pitches such a hard working couple place is spotless very friendly nothing any bother you pay for shower but it’s only one pound hot and clean. There is a bus stop just outside takes you to Clitheroe which is nice one mile away a straight walk is a nice pub The Bay Horse nice food.you also pay for electric by card but it was just over four pounds for three nights.would definitely recommend one thing to note normally when you pay through pitch up they take money from your card but when leaving Walter informed us we had only paid a deposit and had balance to pay they don’t take cards so had to do a bank transfer when we came home so take cash.

Local attractions

Peer into the past… Samlesbury Hall (five minutes' drive) has witch tours, a heritage café and the historic house to look around, while in Whalley village (10 minutes), there’s a Cistercian Abbey for good measure, and a viaduct, river walks and independent shops to choose from afterwards.

The foodies and gin connoisseurs among you won’t be left in the dark around here. Clitheroe (15 minutes) is a right old foodie town, thanks to its food festival and market (not forgetting the castle for an extra helping of history). The Brindle Distillery (15 minutes) is a good way to wash it all down with a gin tour.

Now for some nature, some good places to find that include the Brockholes nature reserve (10 minutes), Bowland Wild Boar Park (25 minutes) and all the walks around Skipton and the Yorkshire Dales (40 minutes).

Those of you who aren’t finished with the action of a town or city might also want to pay a visit to the Haworth Art Gallery (25 minutes) and all of Blackpool’s attractions (half an hour), including the theme park, water park and piers.

Must see

  • Oswaldtwistle Mills (5.9 miles)
  • Forest of Bowland (8.3 miles)
  • Beacon Fell Country Park (8.4 miles)

National Trust

  • Gawthorpe Hall (9.0 miles)
  • Rufford Old Hall (16.1 miles)
