  • Peaceful, isolated site on a secluded Lancashire farm
  • A half-hour drive from Blackpool beach and Forest of Bowland
  • Simple grass pitches down a long farm track, 10 minutes from the M6
Oh to be on a peaceful, secluded spot in the lovely Lancashire countryside, with forests, the Lakes and big cities not far off… such is the atmosphere at Moss Rose Campsite, a relaxing site about 10 minutes’ drive from the M6 and half an hour north of Preston. This is a splendid spot for those who’d like a bit of peace and quiet – pitches are on a simple grass field well away from any neighbours. There are quiet hours between 10pm and 8am, with guests asked to reduce their noise levels from 9pm. You’ll have to travel down a long farm track to get here (it’s rather rough and bumpy, so take it slowly) but the reward is a spacious and secluded stay on a small traditional family-run working farm with views out over fields of farm animals. (The owners describe it as ‘somewhat alike to The Darling Buds of May’, for those who remember such telly treats.) Because of those farm animals, dogs are welcome as long as they are well behaved and kept under control. Kids are also very welcome, and you’re able to set up barbecues for your evening meal (as long as you’re careful with them…) There’s a pub a couple of miles away if you fancy a pint or a bite to eat. Day trips around here might take you to the coast at Blackpool or Morecambe, inland to the Forest of Bowland or Lake District or for a bit of city action in Liverpool or Manchester, both of which are a little over an hour’s drive away (also making this site also a good place for city dwellers who fancy a quick escape without a long drive).

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked: Booked 1 night as a break in journey and couldn't have found a better place. Excellent down to earth folk with genuine care for the environment in everything they do. Total peace and quiet, only the sound of wildlife and birdsong galore, enjoyed the 1 night that much I decided to return the night after for the 2nd. Hat off to the family for brilliant conversations explaining there ethics and values and will definitely be making a pitstop whenever I'm in the area again.

Disliked: Nothing

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Atmosphere, the layout of site with little camp areas dotted about rather than regimented rows. Led to greater privacy. The staff were very polite and hopefully. The play area worked for our kids 3 and 7.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We were so happy with the staff there and the services available, we were welcomed the moment we got there and told if there was anything we needed to not hesitate to ask.

It was very strong winds on our visit and we were struggling with part of the tent, the staff were there to ready to help and we really appreciated it.

We loved the little woodland trail they had to offer, was so cute.

We loved the services on offer such as Stan's honesty shack, microwave, phone charging lockers, coffee machine and a fridge.

Overall it was an amazing stay, and we'd highly recommend this place to anyone.

Disliked: There was only a couple of things we thought could be improved.

The lights on the paths, they weren't very bright and there weren't many of them, so when I needed the toilet in the night it was hard to navigate. Granted I could've brought a torch, but this was just something I wanted to raise.

The other thing was the toilets, they were okay, but they were a little cramped and small, but overall fit for use.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Honesty shack, pitch sizes, cleanliness of facilities, peaceful, park

Disliked: Our pitch was ok, but other pitches were a bit uneven in places, 10:30 check out for tent camping with a young family was a bit of a rush

Liked: It's really hard to find a campsite where the owners seem genuinely pleased to have you there. It was a really well thought out plot of land where you have plenty of room on your own plot and don't feel overlooked by others. Absolutely loved all the wildlife projects they had on the go, and playing on the merlin app to hear all the local birds. Had a day trip to knott end for the chippy and bakery which were fab.

+Hosts were super friendly and welcoming

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked: EVERYTHING! It was very much designed with the safety of young children in mind! The children’s play area was located in the centre of the site which allowed all parents to see their children playing from the comfort of their own pitch.
The pitches were large and well spaced out which made our stay peaceful and private.
The nature walk was super cute 🥰 my girls loved exploring.
We can not wait to stay here again!

Disliked: The size of the shower room. My girls are only 2 and 4 and I was travelling alone with them. I couldn’t get us all into the shower room together to ensure they were safe. Pretty minor as we only stayed for 2 nights so a shower wasn’t essential 😂

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: I always struggle to rate campsites because everyone has a different idea of a perfect site and a different style of camping, and we like lots of different sites for different reasons.

This had everything we needed for a relaxing night not too far from home.

Lovely peaceful location, quiet site even though it was almost full, pitches well spaced so it never felt noisy, crowded or busy, little woodland walk, and the kids liked the ice lollies from the honesty shed.

Local attractions

Before you get straight to your adventuring, there’s a farm shop and ice cream parlour called Wallings Ice Cream (15 minutes' drive) that will make sure your tummy’s well prepared for all the action. For action, the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (half an hour) is just the place - have a pedal between rural villages, picking up farm produce as you go. The Lake District National Park (45 minutes) has plenty more trails or watersports for those looking to get a dip in. But what about those city days out also? The bright lights of Blackpool (half an hour) are hardly far away, and for more sightseeing, Manchester (an hour and 10 minutes) and Liverpool (an hour and 15 minutes) make for some great day trips. If you’re a fan of the busy buzz and action Lancaster (half an hour) has museums and a city park or Morecambe (half an hour) has a splendid seafront… but for more wildlife instead, head to the Wild Discovery animal park (half an hour).
