Only opened in 2015, this site has great potential. There's room for plenty of tourers or tents (we were in our campervan) with room for awnings. Also about 3 pod things to stay in if you want a bit more comfort.

Facilities are great, with 3 showers in the male toilet block, one of which is a 'wet room' set up for those with disabilities. All are kept spotlessly clean - doors are on combination locks and lights come on automatically so you can see whatever time of night you need to use them.

Electric hook-ups on 16amp breakers, so plenty of power. There's a washing up room with a washing machine, microwave and toaster should you want them.

Site is tucked into the valley before Ogden Reservoir, which is about 10 - 15 minutes walk up the road. The small village of Newhey is about the same in the opposite direction, with pubs (2 called 'the Bird in Hand') and a sports bar, a café, Londis shop and fish and chips/Chinese takeaway.

The owners were concerned that we wouldn't like the road noise - our pitch was right by Huddersfield Road. But after the pubs close, the traffic died off completely and we had no difficulty sleeping. In a couple of years, the laurels and Leylandii bordering the road are likely to deaden the sound more.

    Only 2 mins from j21 of the M62, it's a little gem.

    Disliked:

Hardstanding for pitches, which made putting the awning up with 'normal' pegs a real trial. Recommend heavy duty pegs... (This may not be a problem in the lower field which looked as though it was grassed rather than hardstanding)

The site is closed by an electronic barrier. Whilst understandable, it's £20 deposit for a dongle to operate it, and if you don't have one then disturbing others to open the gate is a nuisance.

No Wifi, and TV/Mobile signal was patchy. Not much owners can do about the TV/Mobile and I guess we can manage without the internet for a couple of days, eh?
