Camping pod

Liked: We loved everything about the farm. We stayed in a pod which was immaculate and had everything we needed. The toilet and shower block was stunning, more like what you would expect in a hotel. Owners amazing and so helpful. The fishing was also amazing we caught solidly for 2 days. One of the best campsites we've ever been to and definitely be returning. Added bonus that it was dog friendly.

Shepherd's hut (no pets, premium)

Liked: Brilliant little weekend away! in our cosy Shepherds Hut (2 Adults & 2 Children) all toasty and warm. Plenty of fresh air and brilliant views. Just gorgeous inside and out. The site was nice and quite with a fishing lake and a small park. There's a few vending machines (remember to take loose change for ice-cream & snacks). The shower & toilet block was clean & the showers were nice and warm. Summer who greeted us was very helpful and always around if you needed anything. 5 minutes drive away is a lovely Marina ⛵ with café and there is also a Milkshake Shack too which the kids loved.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: A really beautiful site with plenty of space for children to play & runaround. The pitches are well maintained and a great size for a caravan, awning and a car - there is hook up & water available on the pitch also. There is a play park which looks great (but we didn’t use due to the boggyness of the grass from the constant rain we’ve had) the facilities are the best that I’ve ever seen & very clean and looked after (even with a security camera!) and there looks like there will be more improvements made to the site in the near future. The pitches are well spaced apart from one another so you’re not packed in like sardines & it’s a quiet site so no loud music allowed or constant noise from vehicles. The site is secure with a code required for entering & exiting. Our family would 100% recommend & return to this site again

Disliked: No fault of the site but parents seem to let their children run around near other people’s pitches, without any consideration for others. Also there were children hanging around the toilet facilities (one of which spooked me, whilst expecting to see one of their friends walk out) I wasn’t too bothered by this but I’m sure older folk wouldn’t appreciate it.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Really nice site, lovely little lake. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Good size pitch, really chilled weekend.

Disliked: Only down side is that the water tap is in the middle of the grass behind the pitches - not ideal if muddy but didn't put us off wanting to go again!

Local attractions

Garstang (the world's first Fairtrade Town, food fact fans) is a few minutes' drive or two miles' walk from Poplar Grove and comes with seven pubs and three restaurants; have a duke too at the ruins of 15th-century Greenhaugh Castle overlooking the town. The village of Scorton, three miles from base, has a pub, garden centre, café, and restaurant: if you're around during the May bank holiday, roll along to the Bike and Barrows Festival and the Scorton Music Festival for wheelbarrow racing, sheep racing and other shenanigans. To the east of Garstang, the old hunting ground of the Forest of Bowland is now an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty landscaped by moorland, fells and valleys, with endless opps for walking, cycling, fell running and wildlife watching (not all at once, and look out for the hen harriers…). The Bowland Visitor Centre, with info on the area's activities and events, is in Beacon Fell Country Park. A 20-minute drive will land you at either Blackpool (south east) or Lancashire's county town of Lancaster (north), with a fair good time to be had at the former and a load of historical sightseeing available at the latter. Preston is about 25 minutes' drive south. To investigate a bit further afield, the watery wonders of the Lake District are about an hour's drive away.
