  • Small, family-friendly campsite surrounded by Lancashire countryside
  • Just off the A6 and a 10-minute drive from the Forest of Bowland
  • Opposite an American diner with play areas; owl experiences on site
How could you possibly resist a camping stay at Oaktree? Surrounded by the spectacular Lancashire countryside, the camping field (suitable for families and couples only) has just a small number of pitches, making it a top priority that guests have plenty of space to unwind. It's also directly opposite a popular American diner with large indoor and outdoor play areas and an ice cream parlour, where the kids should like letting off steam or tucking into dishes like burgers or pancakes. The basic grass field is set up for camping the old-school way, with simple, off-grid amenities including fresh water taps and toilets. Set a nice way back from the A6 and just a 10-minute drive from walks in the Forest of Bowland, the field doesn't have any electricity or showers. Instead, there's plenty of space for kids to run around or play ball games, and the views are lovely and green. There's something a little different about this site, too: they own a small group of well-behaved, hand-reared owls. Families can ask the owners (preferably before their arrival) about booking a bird of prey experience to hold and interact with them up close. Don't let the rural scenery fool you either; local amenities are still easily accessible from Oaktree. You only need to walk 15 minutes south to reach an Indian restaurant or 10 minutes north to find the local fish and chips shop and an Italian restaurant and pub on the canal. If you're looking for rainy-day activities, The Flower Bowl Entertainment Centre is a 25-minute walk away (or a five-minute drive) and has bowling, a cinema, indoor mini golf, curling and a few games tables. This is a quiet spot designed for families and couples, so you’re asked to keep the noise down and leave your pitch as tidy as you found it.

What customers say

Guests consistently praised the shepherds huts as "cute," "cosy," and "fairy-tale like," with many highlighting the cleanliness and thoughtful amenities. The private setting, featuring a dedicated field and a range of toys, was a hit with children, who enjoyed outdoor play over screen time. Reviewers appreciated the peaceful atmosphere, proximity to local shops and eateries, and the welcoming, helpful hosts. Some noted the beds could be small for taller individuals, but overall, the experience was described as amazing, perfect, and highly recommended.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Steve (the site host & owner) was incredibly welcoming, friendly and just generally very pleasant. The toilet was well maintained and tended too daily. The camping field was spacious and secluded without being too far away from the road ect. One of the highlights of our stay was meeting some of the many owls that call Oaktree home. For a very reasonable fee Steve welcomed me, my partner and our two children to have an hour session with 6 of his owls where we got to interact and handle them whilst learning about them. It was fantastic.
We would highly recommend Oaktree and we'll be staying again in the future.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The owner, Steve, was very polite. Sent us a text pre arrival to explain where to find them and inform us of what’s around in the area. The pitches were big, there was plenty of room and I liked the fact you could see the cows in the little field next to us. Water easy accessible from a tap and a little area to wash face/brush teeth/wash hands etc. Billy bobs American diner and play area is directly across the road, guys thatched hamlet is just 5 minute walk away and plenty of pubs around for dining or to stop off for a drink.

Disliked There was only one portaloo, at one point there was 20+ campers on site all sharing and waiting for one toilet. My constructive criticism would be just to put another toilet on site maybe at the other end of the field so one at each end. Other than that - no complaints.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Really nice site owner who also keeps owls. He was nice enough to come around the site with one and let the kids have a hold. Site is basic with a water supply and a porterloo. It was all we needed as only stayed a short time. Over a enjoyed our stay.

Disliked Location to the road might be troublesome to the light sleepers. I had ear buds as I'm a light sleeper and I was fine. But my partner struggles with the early morning traffic

Liked Clean, well maintained site. Steve is an excellent host, we were kept up to date by text and everything went smoothly. Excellent, level pitch.
Close enough to walk to amenities, but secluded enough to feel safe. We will definitely return!

Liked Great location, across the road from Billy Bobs American Diner and within walking distance of Guys Thatched Hamlet both with superb entertainment for young children.

The site owner was very welcoming, greeting us on arrival.

Small site with running water, basic toilet facilities but had everything we needed for a short break.

Will definitely visit again, thankyou Steve.

Shepherd's hut

Liked We loved everything about our stay. The shepherds hut was cute and cosy. The grandchildren loved playing in the field on the toys provided. Close to shop and places to eat. Everything thought of that you could possibly need for your stay. The grandchildren never asked for iPads or phones once which is unheard off haha. Would highly recommend.
