  • Family-run back to basics farm site in the Lancashire countryside
  • A 35-minute drive from the Lake District; 45 minutes from Blackpool
  • Picnic area on site; pubs, restaurants, and farm shop nearby
Looking to tuck into some time away in the gorgeous Lancashire countryside? Blossom Tree Camping has quite the spot for a rural stay, 35 minutes’ drive away from the Lake District and 45 minutes from Blackpool. This family-run farm is a quiet and spacious patch with some cows and many a place to kick back and relax. Well-behaved dogs are welcome here too, but they must be tethered at all times because the cows aren’t big fans. There’s a picnic area on site when you feel like planting yourself down for some tasty eats. In terms of other facilities, there’s a toilet block with ladies and gents’ toilets and a separate shower block and dishwashing area. Where to source the goods for your picnic, though? Well, no need to worry, as there are lots of food shops, including a farm shop, within five minutes’ drive of the site. Pubs are a common sight too – there are several within five minutes’ drive of the site and many more eateries (restaurants, bars and the like included) in Lancaster, 10 minutes’ drive away. The site also sells pizza cooked in a wood-fired stove. For anything else you may need and finding local attractions, there are friendly faces on site that will be happy to point you in the right direction, whether it’s scenic trails, beaches or crags. Please note that electric cooking equipment and devices such as kettles, hairdryers and straighteners may not work at this site.

Liked: Loved everything , toilets and showers clean, staff are lovely and even came to the rescue with a first aid box! They showed the Liverpool match which was a winner, and even let us book on for an Extra night. The atmosphere was great. Can’t wait to come back.

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: Cows and chicken.

Disliked: Spiders in toilet.

From the manager: Unfortunately I cannot do much about having spiders in the toilets. It’s the countryside coming into autumn. They are a thing I’m afraid. Therefore I think the cleanliness score is a little harsh. The toilets are cleaned thoroughly many many times throughout the day and again through the evening. As many previous reviews mention they are always spotless. Unfortunately I cannot stop nature wandering in through the doors too. Glad you liked our other animals though.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Had a great stay at Blossom Tree, we stayed for the week and were given a great pitch with view across the fields. The staff/owners were very helpful and friendly. Had some good chats with them about the local area too - which was very much appreciated Pizza was great - garlic bread, onion rings etc! great stuff! Toilets and showers in good condition with warm water too. Site got busier towards the weekend, and reviews mention how close other tents are. The pitches are quite close, but if people pitch sensibly there was enough space! Firepits were great, wood was available and the multi-coloured flames were great fun! seeing chickens and calfs - added bonus.

Disliked: Cars had to be parked at the bottom (which I understand!) - but the walk up the hill was tiresome - maybe I just need to get fitter...!

Liked: showers and toilets where really clean, the people who owned the campsite where lovely.

Disliked: didnt have much space felt crammed in, our guide ropes overlapped the tent the tent in front and their ropes where in our area, so struggled to sit outside the tent with out eating guide ropes. didnt like the hills in the area very steep but this isnt related to the site.

Liked: The hosts are lovely, the location is great. It’s close to the M6 so easy to travel to, and close to Lancaster city centre. But still in the beautiful countryside with great views. The hosts also make great wood fired pizza on site. Good facilities too.

Liked: We stayed over for a long weekend and it was brilliant! The site was clean, lots to do for the kids and the staff were lovely. Fresh home made pizza, outdoor seating areas, farm animals, activity box for the kids, fire pits and more. We would 100% recommend this site!

Local attractions

Once you’re all settled in, it’ll be time to plot out your plan of action. Those of you who have hiking at the top of your list will, of course, want to circle the Lake District National Park (35 minutes’ drive) on your map. The Trough of Bowland (25 minutes) has plenty more scenic walking and cycling routes – this time through a remote river valley. Underline Ingleton Waterfalls Trail (35 minutes) while you’re at it – the views are very worth the small trek. Like a little of the city life too? Lancaster (10 minutes) is a good place to get in some sightseeing. The castle and the Ashton Memorial in Williamson’s Park might make it onto your tour, as should a stop in a delicious eatery (or two). Blackpool (45 minutes) is a smaller town, but there’s plenty of entertainment packed in, including a theme park, wake park, beaches and amusement piers. While you’re on the topic of bays, the Morecambe Bay (25 minutes) estuary is a haven for all things outdoor sports: sailing, kitesurfing and even parachuting. If you like to scale cliffs, head to Thorn Crag (half an hour) too.
