  • Luxurious Lancashire glamping near Clitheroe, with lovely Dales views
  • A 25-minute drive to Mrs Dowsons Farm Park and Pendle Sculpture Trail
  • Mega-pods with kitchens and ensuites; breakfast and picnics available
What a view you’ll have from the mega-large and mega-luxurious pods at Glamping at Greendale, in a hilltop Lancashire location but looking over the spectacular Yorkshire Dales. The site is run by family team Trevor, Louise and daughter Kelsey with the enthusiastic support of meeter-and-greeter in chief, Skye the black lab. Each mega-pod is ensuite and accommodates up to three adults or two adults and two children, and the luxuries come thick and fast: a king-size bed with hypoallergenic quilts and pillows, plus a day sofa that doubles as a bed (all bedding is supplied too). A fully equipped kitchenette has all the necessary bits for sorting out simple suppers, and the table and chairs can be folded handily away during the day. Smart TVs take care of downtime and underfloor heating keeps everybody cosy. Outside each pod is a picnic bench that's just the place for sunny days spent taking in the amazing views and sunsets. Guests can pop in to Greendale’s tearoom for breakfast (8am–9.30am, book on arrival). Hot and cold drinks, alcohol, sandwiches and snacks are available 12 noon-4.30pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in summer – and if you’re off out exploring, pre-order a homemade packed lunch the day before. With bike, boot and dog-wash facilities taking care of grubby walkers, cyclists and canines, there’s also bike storage on site and a drying room if anyone gets caught in a rain squall. The owners live on site and are always available to help with your queries.

Local attractions

Cultural types can make for Clitheroe Castle (10 minutes’ drive), a ruined medieval landmark free to wander, with an interactive museum showcasing several millennia of local history. Literary fans might care to follow the Tolkien Trail, a circular Ribble Valley route starting in Hurst Green and taking in Stonyhurst College (both 20 minutes), where author Tolkien stayed while writing The Lord of the Rings. Mired in myth and legend, Pendle Hill (10 minutes) is infamous as the home of the Pendle Witches, executed for witchcraft in 1612. Today you can walk for miles on the Pendle Way without seeing a witch, and pop into one of the many enticing pubs along the way. Follow the Pendle Sculpture Trail from the village of Barley (15 minutes) to find carved horses, witches and goblins along the forest route. The kids will probably thank you for a day out at Bowland Wild Boar Park (half an hour) where they can ride tractors, go on riverside walks and feed the farm animals. Another fine choice for entertaining youngsters is Mrs Dowsons Farm Park (25 minutes), home to emus, inquisitive goats, lambs and piglets (in season), as well as donkeys and horses to feed.

Pen-y-ghent camping pod

Liked Set in an idyllic location with beautiful countryside views. Pod was clean, modern and comfortable.

Disliked Very disappointed with the customer service from the owners. Website stated that food & drinks were available on site, however on arrival we were informed that the cafe was closed due to no staff. The owners claim that we were offered breakfast in the b&b but this is completely untrue as we were not offered anything at all!!
The site also states that WiFi and TV was available in all pods but we were unable to connect to the WiFi or even get the TV to show any channels. After contacting the owners, they could not fix the problem and we were promised with some compensation for the inconvenience but after more than 2 weeks, we are still waiting!
Please note that the photos shown on the website suggests that there are hot tubs with each pod, however the Penyghent pod does not have a hot tub.
According to the owners, the majority of the facilities were "coming soon" so please check this before booking with this site.

Beautiful hut with a beautiful view.

Whernside camping pod (hot tub)

Liked An absolute delight with the added bonus of the hot tub. It was a cold evening on arrival but the warmth hit you as soon as you opened the door to the pod. So cosy and peaceful! Location is perfect, a short walk to Chatburn and the picturesque village of Downham. Beautiful Barley is a drive away but could easily be incorporated into a walk. The hot tub and views are something else! The owners are extremely friendly and went above and beyond throughout our stay, the breakfast at the cafe is a must! The only downside was, the weekend didn't last long enough. I would highly recommend staying at Greendale Glamping, you will not be disappointed. Our Dalmatian approved too :)
