Primrose camping

  • Quiet campsite in rural Lancashire for adults only
  • A mile from Chorley town centre; Go Ape Rivington 10 minutes' drive
  • Dog-friendly pitches beneath Healy Nab; pub 10 minutes' walk away
Primrose Cottage Camping – a sweet-smelling name indeed, with spectacular countryside views to match. Set amid grassy fields, woodlands and streams in the lovely Lancashire countryside, this site is an excellent spot for back to basics camping in a low-key setting – and as an adults-only site, it does not accept children. Located beneath Healy Nab and next to Blackbrook stream, the site is hidden away in the local countryside. Flat walks along both footpaths and canals are available a few hundred yards from the site gates, making it a cinch to get out there and explore Lancashire's best scenic spots and wildlife havens… Strolling through the local landscape is, of course, an activity you can get up to with your dog if you've brought one along – Primrose Cottage Camping has pet-friendly rules, with polite four-legged friends welcome here all year round. In fact, all guests at this quiet site are asked to be polite and keep any music at a low level for the benefit of everyone around. Chorley town centre is a mile away, although with the rural views here you wouldn't know it. The closest pub is 10 minutes' walk away, and are plenty more pubs, shops and cafés in town within easy reach either on foot (20 minutes' walk) or by car (five minutes' drive). There's also good access to the speedy M61 for long-distance drives to the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, both of which can be reached within an hour.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The campsite is perfect for us, dog friendly, adults only making it a lovely, calm and relaxing site. Good pitch size not over crowded, well looked after field. Toilets are clean with a luxury touch. The owners come around every evening offering campfire wood and fire pit. Looking forward to our re-visit.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: A relaxed check-in process, just turn up find a spot and text the owners. Lovely location with beautiful surroundings. Great place to start a number of walks of the area. Toilet facilities were sufficient and clean. If we'd been staying longer, a shower would have made all the difference.

Liked: Beautiful scenery, quiet, hospitable hosts, town nearby, clean toilets, firepits, buzzards flying over all day!

Disliked: Only thing lacking for me personally is hot water, pain having to boil kettle to wash up but that’s camping!

Liked: Loved our one night getaway here. Beautiful evening watching the sunset by the fire. Peaceful surroundings with a few ponies for company. Silent night… best sleep for a long time bizarrely! Woke up to clear skies and a gorgeous sunrise. Owners were friendly and helpful and the Toilets are insta worthy and very clean. Thanks for a great stay, we will be back x

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely small almost wild camping field. Level pitch and camp where you like. Friendly owners lovley clean toilets and fresh drinking water tap. Lots of nearby walks, very close to Anglezarke and Rivington with Nabs Hill on the door step. Horses and Shetland ponies in the adjoining field.

Disliked: Over priced at £25 per night for one person in a small tent and with no showers, so would not stay for more than 2 nights if I went again. Slight background noise from nearby motorway. Hired fire pits too small which sat flat on the ground leaving burned patches all around the field.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Had a really nice stay here. it's very spacious and relaxed. Just about walkable from Chorley train station with loads of gear (there is a bus stop much nearer). Fantastic walking nearby. Great to have the option of a fire pit, in fact probably essential for me on Sunday night as I was completely soaked through including my only pair of shoes! Very friendly owners.

Disliked: This is such a small thing, but the paper towels in the toilet ripped if you had wet hands and it was difficult to pull them out singly. Would probably save money overall to get better quality ones as I had to pull out a wad at a time which wasted a load.
