  • Luxurious ensuite glamping pods at the bottom of scenic Glen Helen
  • A 10-minute drive to Peel town and under a mile to Rhenass Waterfall
  • Pods include showers, kitchenettes and seating areas; shop on site
Like the sound of a little luxury on a leisurely trip to the Isle of Man? Boost your break with a stay at Glen Helen Glamping, a site with well-kept camping pods to settle into when you’re not hiking on the trails in the scenic valley next door. The smart pods at this park have underfloor heating (to make getting out of bed a touch easier in the mornings…) and an ensuite bathroom with a shower to relieve you of any dirt picked up on those walking trails. A kitchenette’s on hand as well, but if you’re not hot on cooking while on hols, make like you’re in the Alps at the award-winning Swiss Chalet Restaurant a mere minute or so's walk from the site. For those who aren't fans of fondue, a shop’s at the park for grabbing grub and the small supermarkets of Peel are a 10-minute drive away; the site’s also on a bus route if you’d like to head towards the island's towns and sights without the car. Rely on your own two feet for ambling to nearby attractions like the Rhenass Waterfall, under a mile’s walk along the Neb and Blaber rivers past sequoias, spruces and sycamores. You could also stroll for 40 minutes towards the Tynwald Mills department store, set in a historic mill, before dropping by at Tynwald Hill nearby to see the open-air spot where the island’s parliament sits once a year. If the legs are beginning to burn, return to your pod for a break on the decking – seating is set up outside each unit and a barbecue is here as well.

Local attractions

Fully rested? Get over to Glenmaye, 15 minutes’ drive from the park, to walk through the dramatic bridged gorge; or travel 20 minutes to the Home of Rest for Old Horses, where nags live out their retirement days in scenic surrounds. For more animal antics, Curraghs Wildlife Park (15 minutes) is home to creatures ranging from meerkats to prairie dogs, and you might also glimpse wandering wildlife around Milntown House and Gardens, the only historical estate on the island. While primates to peer at might be lacking at Ape Mann Adventure Park (10 minutes), there are at least rope courses and ziplines to monkey around on. And if these adrenaline-fuelling pursuits leave you wanting more? You might also like to zoom around on a segway tour (starting point within 10 minutes' drive). If all that sounds too much for a hol you’d planned to do absolutely nothing on, grab your sarong and set off for Peel beach, 10 minutes’ drive away…
