  • Cosy log cabins with stunning fell views; friendly alpacas on site

At five minutes’ drive from Ulverston and 10 minutes from the boundaries of the national park, each cabin is carefully handcrafted on site from local wood and designed with cosy touches to keep you warm whatever the weather’s doing outside. Each unit provides top-quality self-catering accommodation with a woodburning stove, exposed timbers throughout and a clever open-plan layout encompassing a fitted kitchen corner with all the essentials, an ensuite bathroom with shower and comfy beds. Smart TVs and wifi come as part of the package, and every cabin has a large terrace for alfresco dining, soaking up the stunning fell views and watching the elusive wildlife. You can make friends with the cuddly alpacas on site, and there are lots of lovely walks and bike rides straight from the cabins. Ulverston has a range of eateries and supermarkets within five minutes by car, and the site is also close to spectacular lakeland scenery, heritage attractions and timeless villages… and of course Wainwright hikes to tick off your list.

Silvered Birch cabin (two person)

Liked The atmosphere, the quietness of the site really made us feel at home and safe. It’s a lovely little get away, we went on a walk around looked at the alpacas while they were getting shaven. The owners are absolutely lovely and helped us with a few enquiries. They decorated for my girlfriend’s birthday and it really made her day feel special. We will return very soon!

Local attractions

South Lakes attractions beckon. Coniston Water (15 minutes’ drive) has a myriad of walking options – take a scenic hike up to the Old Man of Coniston (half an hour to the car park) for far-reaching views over peaks and fells. Close by is the peaceful National Trust - Tarn Hows (35 minutes) for gentle rambles around the lakeside. Cyclists can navigate steep trails through Grizedale Forest (25 minutes), while kids test their head for heights on the zipwires and treetop rope courses at Go Ape Grizedale (half an hour). If you’d rather be out on the water, hire paddleboards, kayaks and sailing dinghies from Coniston Boating Centre (also half an hour). For a couple of days out with a difference, you can walk with grey wolves at the Predator Experience Park (15 minutes) or try riding handsome Shires at Cumbrian Heavy Horses (half an hour). Perhaps heritage is more your thing? Tour opulent 14th-century apartments and gorgeous topiary gardens at National Trust – Sizergh (25 minutes), or see the cosy cottage that Beatrix Potter called home at National Trust - Hill Top Beatrix Potter House (half an hour).
