Serviced touring pitches

  • Well maintained farm stay, peaceful countryside location.
  • Beautiful area to explore. Penrith, Keswick, Lake Ullswater, Carlisle.
  • Spacious pitches surrounded by countryside views
With easy access from both the West Coast main line to Penrith and the M6 motorway, Woodhead Farm is a small and family-run working farm in the Eden Valley. Sitting on the edge of the Lake District National Park, the site is 20 minutes’ drive from Ullswater and makes a handy base for excursions into the North Pennines National Landscape (also 20 minutes by car) and Yorkshire Dales National Park (half an hour) too. Once you arrive at this well-maintained spot, you can make friends with whatever young animals are around (including lambs in spring). Please note that because there is always livestock in the surrounding fields, dogs are not allowed on site. However, lots of great biking and walking trails can be accessed directly from the pitches – and if you’re keen on cycling, the owners have an agreement with a local rental company who will deliver bikes right to your pitch. Golfers will also have a field day, as there are several 18-hole courses within 20 minutes’ drive. Barbecues are permitted on site but if you’re not that into alfresco cooking, you can always head for the restaurants and takeaways of Penrith (10 minutes’ drive). If you want to push the boat out for a special occasion, there’s a Michelin-starred pub in Skelton (also 10 minutes, reservations required).

What customers say

This is an excellent, well-maintained campsite with a fantastic rural location, conveniently close to the M6 and Penrith. Visitors consistently praise the exceptionally clean, modern, and spacious individual shower and toilet facilities. Pitches are generous, level, and often fully serviced, offering pleasant farmland views. The owners are frequently described as friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Some minor road noise may be audible depending on wind direction. One review mentioned ongoing construction of new facilities and an unpleasant interaction with an owner regarding a second vehicle.

Liked The best site that we’ve ever stayed at. The owners are absolutely amazing and so helpful. The shower rooms and toilets are the best that we’ve ever seen, high quality feel, really clean and the Showers are really hot.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Really handy location, for further travels down South.

Friendly owners.

Generally very beautiful location (the kids loved seeing the lambs!)

A fantastic toilet/shower block, with washing up facilities.

A small play area (swing set with slide).

Disliked The noise from the motorway is unavoidable, but it wasn’t enough to put us off visiting again.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Good pitch and facilitues. The owners are very pleasant and helpful.
We took our bikes and enjoyed cycling in some of the quiet lanes. There is a pub about 1 1/2 miles away , The Sun Inn, they serve food which looks quite good and the prices are reasonable.

Liked Fabulous pitch nice and large , great facilities toilet/shower clean spacious one of the best I’ve stayed at
Although close to the M6 hence why I chose it as a one night stop on my way to Scotland traffic sound is minimal and the lovely Farm scenery ( new lambs) more than made up for it , had the most amazing sunrise ,

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Second time and again really happy the simplicity of arrival as long as you can tell the difference between a large pitch and small you can decide where to park up no barriers no codes no reception.
A great setting on a working farm especially during landing season .
The facilities are close by well maintained and clean there is a new block but I didn't need to use it but I'm sure it's cool .
If you get the opportunity to meet the owners they are lovely people.
Also it's only a short distance from the M6 and a bike ride to town .

Local attractions

If you’re keen to get out into the hills cycling, you can tackle off-road routes and quiet country lanes right from the pitches, while hikers can stride up to Aira Force High Waterfall from its car park (20 minutes’ drive). Take the weight off your feet on a steamer cruise around Ullswater (half an hour), or join the kids for medieval re-enactments and seasonal events like Halloween pumpkin-picking at Greystoke Castle (15 minutes). Tour the quirky gardens and tuck into afternoon tea in the bijou café at Larch Cottage Nurseries (also 15 minutes), or take a stroll around the grounds at gently decaying Lowther Castle and Gardens, where there’s also a playpark with zipwires. You can usually escape the crowds at National Trust - Acorn Bank (both 20 minutes), a lesser-known attraction with landscaped gardens and a working watermill. When a little evening-time culture is called for, take the kids to an engaging puppetry performance at Upfront Arts Venue (five minutes’ drive), where you can also buy local artwork. Alternatively, enjoy a date night of new or classic plays at the contemporary Theatre by the Lake (25 minutes), which has pretty views over Derwentwater.
