Selker: Horses on the site

General

  • Cliffside site on a family-run smallholding on the Cumbria coast
  • A 25-minute drive to Port Haverigg; direct access to the coastal path
  • Firepits and wood available; barbecues permitted; fresh eggs available

Live the coastal way for a while on the Cumbria coast… a cliffside side on a family-owned smallholding, Selker is the right place to go if coastal walks, watersports and steam train trips are up your alley. From this site, you’ll be on the edge of the Lake District National Park with direct access to The Cumbria Coastal Way and watersports in Port Haverigg 25 minutes’ drive away.

Here, you’ll be signing up for a platter of sublime views too, as the site is at the mouth of the river Annas with views of the Lake District and the Isle of Man if it’s a clear enough day. As it’s a cliffside site with agricultural machinery, younger children must be closely supervised, and dogs are not permitted due to the rescue cats homed by the site.

While you may want to start off the day with your own barbecue breakfast and fresh free-range eggs laid out by the site’s little ladies, the evening may be just as laidback as the site provides firepits and wood.

As this is a small site, there are simple facilities including toilets and a water supply; there is also a cold-water washing-up area However, you’ll be within reach of more than just castles, steam trains and fells, as this site is one mile from a train station and 10 minutes’ drive away from Bootle’s village shop, café and 15 minutes from a pub serving bar meals.

Millom, another local town, has many more venues for dinner or takeaway and places for a good old shopping spree.

Everything! Quiet, secluded, right on the coast with amazing views. we were the last ones of the season and they showed us where to go, brought us a fire pit and let us crack on and be wild! Which is great for us.

Myself and my boyfriend stayed at Selker camp site for 2 nights. Our stay was more than pleasant, feeling very well cared for by the family who were extremely kind and helpful. The views, sun rises & sun sets are amazing and the camp site, with little to no light pollution meant that the starry skies at night were fantastic. The location is rather secluded but this just makes it perfect for anyone wanting a fresh weekend escape! Although, gorgeous Muncaster castle is only 12 minutes away in the car, and the coastal walks/walk to Bootle town were also pleasant. The portaloos were excellently clean too, not to mention the cute pets, Ollie, Bo & we sadly didn’t catch the cat’s name that spent a couple of hours in our corner of the camp site!

I absolutely loved this hidden Gem! - a stunning location , had me gazing at the stars as well as listening to the sea - its right on the coast with super friendly hosts
who welcomed me to their lovely farm. I was pretty spoiled having the field to myself,
the toilets were excellent and I even got fresh farm eggs for my tea!

This is the polar opposite of 'campditz'! If you want hot showers and washing up facilities then its not for you - although there are plans a foot! My advice is to enjoy this unspoiledt beauty spot for what it is - I loved it.
Nice soft field, quite exposed and a little wild :)

Remoteness, friendliness of owners, nice pitches, firepits, low price, great views. The coastal erosion is telling here. Some people describe the lakes district as "Butlins" due to all the other tourists and vacationers. Stay here if you want to be remote.
Minimal amenities, which will soon become hard-standing toilets.

Amazing location with the beach or sea front just yards from the site, nice views of the mountains behind. Costal path access within the site with a nice river walk one side and cliff side the other direction. Nice clean site, clean toilets and great owners always happy to help even when my car battery went flat they stopped what they were doing to help me get it going again. Will be going back again.
