With a spectacular backdrop of lakeland fells such as Blencathra, Skiddaw and Latrigg, The Willows is a gorgeous spot for adults-only caravan or campervan holidays in the Lake District National Park. Set between Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake (about five minutes’ drive to either), this farm site is just outside the village of Braithwaite (10 minutes’ walk), and also five minutes’ drive from the cafés and galleries of Keswick (easily accessed via the A66). On site, you can buy essentials such as free-range eggs, fresh milk, butter and a selection of dairy produce. Most other basics (including food for barbecues) can be found at the local shop (10 minutes’ walk), which is open seven days a week. There’s a pub and a tearoom in Braithwaite too. The rural setting of The Willows combines with modern amenities in the wooden shower block to make your stay both convenient and peaceful. Dogs are more than welcome, and you can stretch your legs (or paws) on walking trails accessed right from the pitches. Please just keep your dogs on leads around the site as there are farm animals in the vicinity.

In reply to your review I try to ensure in the photo gallery (where the images are not enhanced) that the site is shown as it is, a fully hard standing campsite with great views and that although being exactly what you described seems to have been missed by you when you booked. You are correct with your comments that the pitches are rough and ready, as shown in the 100+ images, and the toilet block is indeed basic, again shown in the 100+ images, but with that in mind the toilets as reflected in previous reviews are clean and the showers are excellent. We remain the cheapest pitch per night in the area with no minimum stay and thats in spite of having some of the best views available in the area. I hope for any future bookings you make you look through the gallery so that you dont impact the owners review score because you failed to look at where you were booking as you have done with mine. Liked We loved how small and quiet this site is. Ideal for Braithwaite, Bassenthwaite, Keswick and Derwentwater and the site looks out towards Skiddaw. All in all, a great place and a convenient base for exploring. Toilets are well maintained and the pitches are spacious.

Disliked To be honest, we can't think of anything negative which is good!

Liked All facilities were great for our overnight stay and a short walk to the local Village .Bus stop nearby for going into Keswick and further .

Disliked Would have been nice to have met the owner instead of a text .

Liked Lovely level site. Quiet, even though it's next to a small business park - I did have some fast jets passing overhead one afternoon, which was great. Lovely view over fields. Toilets and showers really clean and well kept. Indoor washing up area.

Disliked Communication about the booking didn't go well. Though I found it and stayed ok so no problem.

Liked The owners were lovely, helpful and friendly. The site was clean, with 3 separate toilet blocks, all with showers, heating and hot water and there was a indoor area for washing up. Really good wi-fi and bins on site, plus individual electrical hook up and water tap.
The walk to the village was just over the road and we tried 2 pubs, both nice. We also walked to Keswick via their field, which was about 2 miles, with lots of shops, pubs and restaurants.

When visiting Keswick (five minutes’ drive), be sure to stop at the Derwent Pencil Museum, which explores the history of this humble writing tool and other art materials – with a wide range available at the on-site shop. Afterwards, make your way to the shore of Derwentwater for a canoeing or rowing expedition, or a cruise around the lake. Lake District Wildlife Park (10 minutes) is the place for a meditative walk with an alpaca, a falconry experience or a meet-and-greet session with meerkats, lemurs or tapirs. It’s also possible to witness feeding sessions with lynx and red pandas, and to take part in assorted craft workshops. Among the activities at Honister Slate Mine (half an hour), in the foothills of Dale Head, are underground tours of the mine (including one with a spooky haunted theme, and another where you get to scale the walls of the cavern) and thrilling outdoor pursuits such as a via ferrata climbing route and the null Bridge, high above the Borrowdale Valley.
