Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Got in early and got ourselves a lovely pitch right next to the stream. The site wasn’t over crowded and toilets were basic but clean. Showers are a 5 minute walk away on the farm away from campsite but showers were hot and clean. Homemade freshly cooked pizzas available on Saturday nights and a shop open each day with basics you might need. Lovely pub just 5 minutes walk from the campsite. Highly recommend

Liked: Stunning scenery. Plenty of space. Nice welcome from Dan.

Disliked: Showers are a little walk away back at the farm, wasn't a particular issue for us but it also wasn't ideal.

Liked: The facilities were simple but clean. The location was breathtaking by the stream. Good shelter from the wind in the valley. Friendly staff and lovely shop/cafe.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: The Pizza's (on Saturday nights) at the owners farmhouse. The location. The local pub (that has recently opened which serves great food). The campsite owner who was knowledgeable about the weather (the weather was better than the forecast and we were able to do a good high level walk)

Disliked: A bit muddy in places.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Cleanliness

Disliked: To basic if your are camping in the rain (Coast to Coast hike), no hot water, no drying facilities, only two (not working properly) toilets. No phone signal for checking weather forecast. There is a shower in the main building, did not go there to far a walk in the rain. ‘Maby nice weather camping’ only. Did not like there is no personal contact with the owners. Did not feel comfortable at night.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Great location, fantastic showers, and had a nice chat with the guy that came round to check on us. Really enjoyed the ‘back to basics’ style of camping.

Local attractions

Dust off those hiking boots, for Seatoller’s surrounds are stacked with walking trails to suit all comers, from those seeking a gentle stroll through woodland and across heather-strewn fells to those in search of more vertical challenges. The beginning of a couple of the national park’s top climbs are easy to get to too – Great Gable (an hour and a half) and mighty Scafell (a couple of hours). Roam a little further afield for hikes on Catbells (15 minutes’ drive), around the Castlerigg stone circle (25 minutes) or on the slopes of Helvellyn (half an hour away, and a fine choice for mountain bikers too). If you’d like to have a crack at climbing in a controlled environment, try the via ferrata route at Honister Slate Mine, five minutes away, and worth a stop for an underground mine tour even if you’re not up to clinging on to crags. All sound a little tiring? Less demanding days out include the Lake District Wildlife Park (half an hour) and the sculpture trail at Rydal Hall Gardens (40 minutes). It’s worth knocking around Keswick for a bit too, visiting the eccentric Puzzling Place exhibition and Derwent Pencil Museum or taking tipples at the town’s brewery. Alpaca trekking at Lingholm Estate and Whinlatter Forest are some other splendid days out.
