  • Well-equipped yurt among four acres of native woodland near Kendal
  • Between Yorkshire Dales and Lake District national parks
  • Wood burner, firepit, kitchen and solar panels provided
You’ll probably feel very much like you’ve entered a magical world when you arrive at Fairy Bell Wood… this is a peaceful place indeed, with just the one yurt hidden away in a clearing among four acres of native woodland. That means plenty of space and freedom to make the most of your lovely Cumbria location, perhaps heading into the woods for a walk, seeing what you can spot in the wildlife pond or just hanging out in the hammock. Close to the pond is a summerhouse with a comfy sofa and a bistro table and chairs – just the spot for a bit of quality time with your book, or a sunset drink. The yurt itself is an enticing prospect, too – it’s spacious and insulated, with a wood burner for added cosiness (logs provided). The double bed has a kingsize duvet for extra comfort, and there’s also a well-equipped kitchen with a small fridge (or cool box in winter) and gas hob. Being way out in the woods, the yurt is off grid, but it’s got solar panels to provide lighting, USB charging points and power for the shower. Other facilities here include a compost toilet and a shower (water needs to be heated on the hob) in the attached bathroom, and a firepit with pots, pans and a grill for those who fancy having a go at cooking over flames. There’s a supermarket 10 minutes' drive away in the outskirts of Kendal for supplies. The dark skies around here are fabulous for stargazing, but less good for finding your way around, so a torch is a handy thing to bring. It’s also wise to bring suitable footwear for the path, which can be wet and muddy.

Cumfrey yurt

Liked: Location, quality of the yurt and everything in it, importance of the woodland and the dark skies. Cosy, beautiful, secluded, private.

Disliked: We found the mattress a bit uncomfortable and the shower worked great but obviously takes a bit more time. Everything else excellent.
