  • Pop-up wild camping at an equestrian centre in the Eden Valley
  • A 30-minute drive to Ullswater lake, and 45 minutes to Hadrian’s Wall
  • Back-to-basics site, with a pub 200 metres away
Tucked away in the peaceful, rural village of Brampton, Ivy House’s pop-up camping field has views over the Eden Valley in gorgeous Cumbrian countryside. In fact, with only a handful of pitches, it’s so quiet up here that hens and the resident horses may be your only close neighbours. So what about the basics to keep you all comfy and cosy on site? Well, this being wild camping, facilities are pretty minimal, but there’s a loo in the farmyard (bring a torch for nocturnal wanderings) and the grass pitches are level and sheltered by mature trees. No need to worry about the car, either, as there’s secure parking in the farmyard. Just 200 metres away (a couple minutes' walk), the friendly village pub serves good food and beer. The market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland (five minutes' drive or at least half an hour's walk) has got a butchers and bakers if you feel like firing up the barbecue, and there are plenty of pubs to tempt you in if you don’t feel like cooking. And this being Cumbria, there’s a cinema there to cater for any rainy days. When you’ve ready for the off, several hiking and cycling routes can be accessed from the quiet lanes around the site, from a family-friendly trot around Gelt Woods (45 minutes) to more serious striding out in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

What customers say

This small, peaceful campsite is set in a beautiful rural location, surrounded by animals including horses, chickens, and cows. Guests consistently praise the friendly and helpful host, Joan. Facilities are basic, with a clean toilet and a utility room for washing up, though no showers are available. The site is well-maintained and offers good value, with many appreciating the proximity to a local pub. While some mention the need for earplugs due to early morning cockerels, the overall experience is described as relaxing and enjoyable, with a strong desire to return.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely stay at ivy house, warm welcome nice walk to pub in next village ( Masons Arms) food was really nice and staff and locals very friendly.
Horses in the field loved a good nose scratch and the chickens and cock made sure you were on time for morning wake up

Disliked Not really a dislike just hope they add showers in the future and this would be a 10/10 site then but knew before travel and wasn’t a problem for one night stay.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Joan was very welcoming, she messaged with directions before arrival and when I got there she was friendly and was happy to offer assistance or guidance on the area. It's a relatively small site, with no shower, but there was a toilet and utility room to wash dishes. I was only there for 2 nights to visit a waterfall in the area so this peaceful little site was perfect for what I needed!

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Everything!! The area is beautiful and the hosts were both lovely, interesting people.
We stayed in the non electric grass pitches overlooking the horses. The village is quaint, lots of the houses date from the early 1700s.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Proximity to pub. Joan the landlady was very lovely and went above and beyond for us. Toilet facilities were clean and tidy and well supplied. Very well located near M6/Penrith for travelling south from Scotland and back north again
