Larkhill Cottage Camping and Caravan Site: Entering the site

General

  • In spectacular scenery close to the Sandstone Trail and local pubs
  • Under an hour's drive from the Welsh coast
  • Near lakes and fisheries for angling; 30 minutes' drive from Chester

Larkhill Cottage Camping and Caravan Site is a scenic site looking out over some of the most stunning scenery in Cheshire, and is five minutes' walk from the Sandstone Trail. It has views towards Clwyd, Shropshire, the Wirral, Merseyside and Peak District. The site is also conveniently located under an hour's drive from the Welsh coast and only five minutes from shops and restaurants.

Guests can sit on a bench in the sheltered stable yard and meet Neville the cockerel and the fellow hens, pet fluffy and friendly yard cat Rio, snip aromatic herbs from the border for dinner or buy free-range eggs from the site owners.

The site has plenty of space for family games and dogs are also welcome (please be responsible and keep dogs who may chase livestock on a lead). Facilities on site include a kitchen with a fridge, freezer, washing machine, microwave, kettle and toaster. A toilet (with hot and cold running water) is available but you'll need to bring your own soap and toilet paper.

The site is eight minutes' drive from the historic small market town of Malpas, where there's a general store, and two minutes from a chip shop and a good Indian restaurant. Whitchurch is 10 minutes' drive away, with a choice of supermarkets as well as a regular farmers' market.

The site's facilities include a toilet with wash basin (with hot and cold water), and a kitchen with dishwashing sink, freezer, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle and washing machine.

Please note

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

There is a unit height restriction of 3.05m. Units taller than this cannot access the site due to the archway leading to the field.

We were greeted by the host who told us some basics like where to fill with water, where to recycle etc. We liked the rural outlook and relaxed atmosphere of the site and some gorgeous and friendly onsite horses.

    Disliked:

The ground was sloped but we overcame that with wheel levellers.

We had such a good experience. I booked three pitches since we were staying as a group of friends. Claire was so helpful, emailing in advance to check what size the tents are so we had enough room. She sectioned off a large space for us in advance so we could definitely all camp together and have room for a good set up. Having such good communication from Claire, who has a very friendly laid back approach, really made our visit!

This site was everything we could’ve asked for our first (tent) camping trip as a family. The setting is incredibly tranquil with only the sound of the chickens and whinnying horses breaking the silence. We stayed over half term so all bar one of the tents belonged to families with young children like ourselves. It was lovely for the children to all play together in a safe environment where they could experience all the fun of nature without the concern of them wandering off and getting lost.
The site was immaculate and Claire works hard to keep it clean. The kitchen and toilet facilities are also clean and don’t smell unpleasant like you can find in “public” toilets.
Claire, the owner, was lovely and very approachable. As someone with anxiety this was great as social interaction is a huge trigger for me but Claire was very friendly and made us feel very welcome.
The animals were just the icing on the cake for me. To be able to sit and watch the horses from our tent or walk past the pen of clucking chickens and stroke Milo the cat when going to the kitchen/toilet just added to the relaxing experience.
Don’t be put off that there was families there if you’re an adult only party as you honestly wouldn’t have known. The site was very quiet and the children were all lovely and polite.
We’ll definitely be back again. The only thing which would deter us staying longer than a weekend is that there isn’t a shower. If there was a shower we’d happily stay for a week.
It was definitely the relaxing break we needed.
