  • Friendly site in the grounds of historic Stretton House
  • A 10-minute drive from Pickmere Lake; and 20 minutes from Manley Mere
  • Farm shop nearby; barbecues and firepits allowed
If you like the sound of having farm shops and ice cream farms nearby, as well as access to lots of walking and cycling trails, Stretton House Campsite should be a fine pick for you. It has a strict no noise policy after 10pm, meaning that you should get a peaceful night's sleep too. This site is in the grounds of the 400-year-old Stretton House surrounded by the Cheshire countryside with handy transport links nearby and outdoor activities in no short supply… that includes things like alpaca walking, golf or Manley Mere’s watersports haven (a 20-minute drive away for the latter). You’ll have your pick of two fields, both with car parking by the pitch free of charge and dogs allowed. There are basic facilities including a mobile freshwater toilet block with male and female facilities and a water standpipe. You’ll have permission to start up a barbecue or firepit too (subject to the correct safety measures). When you’re ready to get going, the friendly owners will be willing to help out however they can and suggest possible days out, which may include fishing or walking at Pickmere Lake (10 minutes’ drive), visiting an ice cream farm (within 10 minutes’ drive of the site) or going to the local golf course (five minutes’ drive). For food, there’s a farm shop just two minutes’ walk away from the site where you’ll be able to get your hands on local produce. Pubs aren’t far away either – there is one pub five minutes' walk away, and another 15 minutes' walk away. Festival goers are very welcome, and the Creamfields Festival site is five minutes’ drive away. Please respect the quiet hours (no noise is permitted after 10pm) and environment, as the owners' home is on the grounds (and stick to the field's facilities only).

What customers say

This campsite offers a friendly, quiet, and clean experience with spacious pitches and good facilities, including modern shower blocks. Its location is praised for easy access to motorways and proximity to a farm shop and local pubs. The site is popular for festivals, with owners providing helpful shuttle services. While generally well-regarded, some visitors find it pricey for the basic amenities, with occasional comments on limited facilities or ground conditions after rain.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked clean facilities
Not busy so lots of space

Disliked This was a last minute trip and school holidays so didn’t have lot choice , it is very expensive at £30 pn for non electric and you have to pay extra if you wish to have a shower maybe a playground installed would be good for kids of charging so much . This has put me of staying again

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Gemma,

Thank you so much for staying with us and taking the time to leave a review.

I am glad you enjoyed the large pitch size and cleanliness of the site. Sorry to hear you didn't get to book your stay until the last minute and so didn't have much choice on where to stay.

You seem to have marked us down for the price and charging for showers primarily. This seems a little unfair as the price and cost of showers are clearly advertised before you decide to book...

We do plan to install a play area for children in the future but to mark us down for not having something we don't advertise doesn't me sense.

Sorry to see you wont be staying again or recommending us.

All the best,

Paul

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The location was good, secluded, flat ground, plenty of space to pitch, close by to a lovely farm shop, all amenities available

Disliked Price point - plus then charging extra for showers

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Anonymous,

Thank you for staying and taking the time to review our site.

Really glad to hear that the flat seclusion and pitch space was appreciated.

Sorry that you feel the price is excessive and that charging for showers seems too much.

We did take a long time deciding whether or not to charge for showers. When considering this we took into account the considerable upfront investment in the shower block. In addition the cost of pumping the water to and from the shower block, heating and lighting along with the cost of disposing of the waste water. We decided that it was better to offer the facility with a small cost rather than not bothering with showers at all.

We hope that you will stay again in the future as we plan to keep improving and developing the site as much as possible to ensure value for money and guest satisfaction.

Thank again,

Paul

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Modern toilet and shower facilities

Very well kept and facilities cleaned to a good standard routinely

Great location; farm-shop over the road, pubs local (although some are closed down), walks and running routes are decent

The field is never quite very populated … I can’t stand cramped sites!

Disliked Nothing at the price, but an added benefit would be a small play area for kids - just wooden build, even obstacle course kind; there’s enough real estate for it

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Carl,

Thank you for your booking and your suggestions. We hope to install a climbing frame or similar later in the season to further enhance the site. Also we have upgraded the WIFI since your visit so hopefully you will notice the improvement if you come again.

Kellie C.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked 2 lovely fields to choose from. Plenty of room for everyone. Lovely, peaceful site. Dog and family friendly but everyone was very respectful and quiet and there was no disturbing noise at all after 9pm.

Toilets very clean and the washing up area and cold fresh water tap were handy too.
Great location, only minutes from the motor way.

Great place to relax for a weekend or a great base to go out for day trips or exploring near by attractions. We went wild swimming at Horse Shoe Falls (50 mins away) and had a great day. Lots of people paddleboarding there too.

You can park your car by your tent too which is always helpful.

There is a carbon sale at the site on a Sunday once a month. Tents needs to be packed away by 11am so the field can be used as a car park for visitors. You can keep your car on the site though and visit the cartoon sale if you wish. Worth bearing in mind if staying at the weekend or over weekend and into the week. Maybe ask before booking.

The owner is very friendly and helpful with great knowledge of the local area and attractions to visit. No question was too big or small.

We also ate out locally at The Partrige pub/restaurant which was amazing. The staff were super friendly and the food was outstanding.

We will definitely re-visit Stretton Hall Camping again and recommend it to single campers, couples and families. It's a great site for everyone.

Disliked We had quite a few wasps around our tent but that's our fault for not taking anything with us to deal with them! It's part of being in the countryside and out in nature.
It was also the hottest day of the year so to be expected but worth bearing in mind if you have kids. Take some spray!

From the manager: Hi Kellie,

Thank you so much for coming to stay with us and leaving such a comprehensive review!

It was lovely to meet you and I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay.

Since your review we have installed complementary sun cream and insect repellent vending stations. hopefully if you come again the wasps will give you a break!

All the best,

Paul

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Friendly site.

Disliked 4 minute showers , including changing time. I shampooed my hair inthe disabled facility and had conditioner in before I paid my £2. I saw another lady walking from her tent in a towel.

From the manager: Hi Julia,

Thank you for your booking and your review.

Glad that you had a nice time and found the site to be friendly and that you would come again and recommend us.

Sorry that you found the charging model for the showers to be unsatisfactory. To clarify it is 5 minutes for £2 for a hot shower. We did take a long time deciding whether or not to charge for showers. When considering this we took into account the considerable upfront investment in the shower block. In addition the cost of pumping the water to and from the shower block, heating and lighting along with the cost of disposing of the waste water. Hope to see you again soon,
