  • Peaceful, well-maintained and family-run park in a central setting
  • Safe direct access link to the Shropshire Union Canal for strolls
  • Fish at three fishing lakes for a fee; bar/bistro two minutes' stroll
Cheshire countryside, anyone? In a setting that's quite rightly been pointed out as central to pretty much anywhere? Easily sorted when pitching up at Sunny Side Touring Park. Set in green countryside with loads of open space, Sunny Side is central indeed: it's about 20 minutes by car to the Welsh border from here, 45 minutes to Wrexham, 50 to Shrewsbury and Chester, an hour to Alton Towers, and an hour and 15 minutes to both Liverpool and Manchester. And if you're after a peaceful base where you don't want to wander far at all? Also easily sorted, as Sunny Side's Nantwich setting is metres from the Shropshire Union Canal for spectacularly scenic strolls or bike rides along the water. There's also a bar/bistro a couple minutes' stroll away. On site, there are three fishing lakes where guests can fish for an extra cost. They stock up to 40-pound carp and catfish. Sunny Side is family run, and allows only a handful of pitches on site to keep its quiet and relaxed vibe. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed: sort supplies a couple of miles away in the friendly little village of Audlem, where there are restaurants and pubs as well as shops. A handy utilities room on site gives guests access to a washing machine, washing-up sinks, a microwave and a kettle.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch (super)

Liked The site was beautiful and well maintained onsite bar which served food..staff were friendly and made you feel welcome

Disliked Confusion over the fishing...pitch up says guests can fish at a cost....Nope that wasn't the case..on arrival we was told we couldn't fish 2 of the lakes as they were fully booked that you have to book in advance..pitch up doesn't state that...very disappointed

Liked Nothing

Disliked The pitch that we booked was not the one we were given after complaining to staff on site we were told there’s nothing they can do and said pitch up were to blame for advertising a pitch that no longer is available due to seasonal caravans being given them

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked What a friendly site, all staff and seasonal residents are lovely and chatty, really felt welcome. Shower room is ok, two showers and 3 loos. Lovely walk to lakes and pub onsite, and along the nearby canal, beautiful! Safe site, gates are shut at night

Disliked When in the shower, the light kept getting turned off by residents as there is a sign by tbe door, lights need to be on a sensor system. If on hard stand, bring good pegs!

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch (adults only, lake view)

Liked The openess of the pitches and the space in front of them. The fully serviced pitch. The lovely lady at reception gave us the opportunity to chose from the adults only field we had booked, or the family field. I'm quite glad to be honest. The adults only field was backing on to the children's playground and opposite the pitch was the pub, so it wouldn't have been the quietest! But the toilets and showers were immaculate, as was the rest of the building. The site itself was beautiful, picturesque and so quiet after 10:30. We will definitely be coming back soon!!

Disliked The odd smell of drains in the evening. (though I am putting this down to the heat and possible standing water in the drains) Wifi was very poor, but it didn't really bother us as we aren't on holiday to play on our phones

Local attractions

The canal and a public footpath alongside are steps from the site. From Nantwich, stroll the couple of miles along the level canal towpath for views over town and the Cheshire countryside, passing the Chester Road viaduct and many moored and cruising narrowboats (to get truly envious, lurk around the marina at Basin End). A couple of pubs at Audlem overlook the canal if/when you require a pitstop. To dive into all things canal and have a natter on the same with knowledgeable types, drop into the Nantwich Canal Centre within 10 minutes' drive. You could also have mightily peaceful potters around the town's shops and wine bars, or the market that runs most days. The leisure centre has an outdoor saltwater pool for dips. Another market town is at Whitchurch, 20 minutes' drive away and two miles from the Welsh border. It's well worth a wander to see its 100+ listed buildings, and to bag foodie supplies from the speciality shops in town: cheese and pork pies are the top picks to hunt down here. From Whitchurch, you can take the train to Manchester, reachable in an hour to the north, or Shrewsbury, half an hour south.
