If you’ve ever been tempted by a narrowboat holiday but feel that your barging skills might not be up to the task, Komet Canal Boats offers an excellent alternative, since it doesn’t need any steering, being moored in the Shropshire Union Canal-adjacent Aqueduct Marina and Caravan Park.
And another excellent thing about this boat stay? It’s adults-only, so you and your beloved can get some quality time together, or finally complete a book or a project without interruptions. Well, without interruptions from the children, since the dog (who is welcome to join you on board) will still need regular walks…
The marina, in a fairly isolated spot in the middle of farmland, is easily accessed via the B5074 road, which also takes you into Nantwich (15 minutes’ drive), with its shops and restaurants. There’s a country pub a five-minute drive away, but – good news – you don’t have to reach for the car keys at all, since there’s a welcome hamper and an honesty bar on board; it’s also possible to arrange for breakfast packages and barbecue sets. In addition, the marina’s Waterfront Café is licensed and open seven days a week (from morning to late afternoon), serving full English breakfasts and simple meals like jacket potatoes, sandwiches and burgers.
