  • Dog-friendly shepherd’s hut on a farm 10 minutes’ drive from Knutsford
  • Jodrell Bank UNESCO site 15 minutes’ drive and Chester Zoo 45 minutes
  • Well-equipped kitchen and woodburner; pubs and a shop 15 minutes’ walk
Found on a Cheshire sheep farm 10 minutes’ drive from the buzzy little town of Knutsford, Greenfields Campsite is a top choice for anyone wanting to combine a cosy holiday in a wooden shepherd’s hut with views over the surrounding farmland. Prettily done up with a rural theme, the hut has a well-equipped kitchen (all the basics and more are there), bunk beds for sleeping and a bathroom with shower. Outside there’s covered decking for chilling, watching the sheep (and lambs in spring) in neighbouring fields and admiring the sunset on clear days. The village of Lower Peover (two minutes’ drive/15 minutes’ walk) has a handy shop and two pubs serving excellent food and beers. You can also source picnic treats from the handy village shop in Goostrey (10 minutes). Knutsford is the spot for nosing around trendy boutiques, and it’s got more than its fair share of pubs and cafés if you fancy a night out. Dogs are permitted – in fact, they get their own welcome pack of treats – while kids get complimentary marshmallows to roast over the campfire (logs and firelighters are available to buy on site).

What customers say

This family-run site offers spacious pitches and a central play area. Guests consistently praise the friendly, welcoming owners, the cleanliness of the quirky facilities (showers, toilets, wash-up areas), and the thoughtful touches like complimentary marshmallows. Fire pits at each pitch are a popular feature. While some mention distant motorway noise, most find it unobtrusive. A few guests suggest more toilet/shower facilities for peak times, but overall feedback is overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing a desire to return.

Disliked Insufficient number of showers and toilets for the number of sites. 6 people before me waiting for a shower.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Really great site. Very family and dog friendly. The staff are really friendly , gutted we couldn’t have a fire due to governments message. Nice little pub 10 min walk from the camp site which serves food, with a local shop as well which is super handy.
I liked that they had designated pitches which makes it much more convenient

Disliked Not enough toilets when fully booked, often was queues to use the toilets, especially if showers being used.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The complimentary marshmallows was a nice gesture for the kids with the ready made fire pits for use. The family run aspect of the site was nice. Location is great close to Knutsford and the 'Tree of Imagination' is well worth a visit. Local shop close to the site in walking distance. Site is very clean, toilets cleaned regular and bins emptied and nice wash up area. Nice to see the site coming to check you in and check booing names etc..

Disliked Pitches are quite small. Although when booking a 10m x 10m pitch the area is a bit of a squeeze. M6 motorway noise is constant but already knew this before booking and does not bother our family. The site only has 2 showers and 3 toilets and we stayed on a busy weekend - could do with a few more really for the number of people at the site.

While we were at the site it was a shame to have a group of rude and inconsiderate people in one corner. I should of know what night was coming when the loud music and happy birthday singing began at 5pm. Come 9 pm it was like camping karaoke. I'm all for people having a good time but women screaming singing like they are in a karaoke bar at night does not fit with the family camping trips I enjoy. Sounded like a bunch of banshee. Would have been nice if they were asked to calm down a bit as we could hear word for word across the opposite end of the site and not fun when trying to get a 5 year and 2 year old to bed but carried on until late evening unchallenged.

Local attractions

Looking for something different to do? Journey up a hydraulic lift between the River Weaver and the Trent and Mersey Canal at the Anderton Boat Lift Visitor Centre (20 minutes’ drive), or get up close to the star-gazing Lovell Radio Telescope and enjoy 4D films on the universe in the planetarium at Jodrell Bank Centre for Engagement (15 minutes). A 40-minute drive takes you to the walled city of Chester, where you can beat the bookies at a race meeting, explore the Gothic-era cathedral and discover The Rows, half-timbered buildings dating from Tudor times. You might also like to treat the offspring to a day at the zoo (45 minutes), where there are rare rhinos and sun bears to see. You can all test your sense of direction on the orienteering courses in Marbury Country Park (20 minutes), or walk any accompanying dogs through the avenue of ancient lime trees. If you have the odd rainy day to contend with, resort to the indoor swimming pool at Brio Leisure Northwich Memorial Court (15 minutes).
