Exploring the Cheshire countryside on foot is an excellent idea – and you’ll be well placed to do exactly that when you stay at Fishpool Farm Caravan Park, a modern site a few minutes’ drive from Kelsall. The trails of Delamere Forest are an easy 10-minute drive from this site, and you’ll also be able to walk sections of the nearby Sandstone Trail, climb Old Pale Hill… or just walk to the local gastropub, five minutes’ walk away. And walking isn’t the only option for a bit of outdoor activity – cycling, horse riding, golf, an aqua park and a Go Ape adventure course are all within 10 minutes’ drive too. Fancy something else to fill your days? How about checking out some local farm shops, taking a wander around Tarporley (five minutes’ drive away) or setting off to Chester (25 minutes) for its characterful city centre, its racecourse and its ever-popular zoo? Back on site, you’ll be staying on a hardstanding pitch that’s also got a grass area to make it easy to put up an awning or to provide a comfy picnic spot. Shared facilities include a bathroom block with a washing machine and Elsan point, and you’ll also have access to wifi. The site entrance is guarded by a barrier for security, and the park has a wooded area that’s great for dog walks, short strolls and places for kids to play.

Liked Lovely site , showers/toilets immaculately clean , staff on site really helpful, Fishpool inn nearby does excellent food but has the Cheshire postcode price tag , we found a great Chinese takeaway in nearby Sandiway though

Disliked Road noise and the road is dangerous on foot

Liked Lovely well kept site with clean shower and toilet facilities. Fishpool Inn within walking distance , Fox and Barrel 30 minutes walk and The Vale Royal Arms 17 minutes walk. Delamere Forest 10-15 mins drive

Disliked WiFi was very intermittent and had to keep pressing the button on the showers every 20 seconds. Noise from road

Liked Neat clean and modest sized campsite. Fantastic hot showers

Disliked Very limited walking available from the camp site a short walk available inside the campsite but the local area is devoid of any useable public footpaths. Busy fast roads with no footpaths make dog walking dicey

Liked Quiet place

Disliked No one informed us of bbq is not allowed. Had a phone call 2 days before my booking but nothing was mentioned about it. Phone signal is absolutely crap. Campsite internet is poor. Toilet facilities are clean but old fashion. Shower is too hot and there is no possibility to adjust.

From the manager: We are sorry you had a disappointing experience. As you may be aware there was a national alert regarding extreme dry weather and high risk of fires so we have taken the temporary measure of restricting bbqs which we hope to relax as soon as possible.

Liked We had stayed here before a couple of years ago and has been developed so much over the years . We wanted a quiet fully serviced pitch to chill out the weekend . This was perfect. I received a detailed email and had a telephone call to go through the booking in procedure , the telephone call was a lovely touch personally. Toilets and showers clean and tidy and you can always see someone cleaning it through out the day.
Signal not great for mobiles but the site WiFi again worked perfectly and was strong enough for our firestick (not always the case on the sites).
Due to personal reasons we couldn’t venture off site but Delamere only down the road , bonus was the pub next door. We live in Liverpool and this site was reasonably priced for the summer months and only a 45 min drive away - we will definitely be booking again . Thank you for a wonderful chilled , relaxing stay x

Local attractions

Delamere Forest (10 minutes’ drive) must surely be on your schedule at some point during your stay – there are 2,400 acres of fabulous ancient woodland here to explore, with bike trails and walking trails galore, including a Wallace and Gromit trail and a Gruffalo trail. The forest also has a Go Ape adventure course and Segway rides, and runs a programme of special events throughout the year. For other outdoor activities, you could try the inflatable obstacle course at Wild Shore Delamere or play a round at Delamere Golf Club (both five minutes). The 34-mile Sandstone Trail also passes close by for more walks, taking in views of Peckforton Castle and Burwardsley, or you may prefer the more high-octane thrills of Oulton Park Circuit (five minutes). Over in Chester (25 minutes), you may like to take a tour of the city walls, visit the cathedral and Roman Amphitheatre or go shopping among the black-and-white buildings of The Rows. The city is also home to the Blue Planet Aquarium and Chester Zoo, and has retail therapy on hand at Designer Outlet Cheshire Oaks.
