Lovely view from our pitch!
Who wouldn't want to wake up to this view? two castles in the distance!

  • Peaceful site on a south-facing farm with scenic views of Cheshire
  • A 10-minute drive to Tattenhall village and 20 minutes to Chester
  • Home-laid eggs available from a small on-site essentials shop
Up for a serene stay in north-west England? Swoop down to Swallow Farm Campsite and check out the Cheshire countryside from this small and peaceful dog-friendly park in the tiny hamlet of Hargrave. A stay here is certainly a scenic option – parts of the grounds have views out across to Beeston and Peckforton castles (both under a 15-minute drive away), and a little further on is Chester, which you can reach on an hourly public bus from near the park (20 minutes’ ride). The famed Chester Zoo is just north of the city (25 minutes’ drive) and the Chester Racecourse takes about the same time to reach. For food after a flutter on the horses, Tattenhall village’s restaurants and pubs – some serving tapas, Indian and Chinese cuisine – are a 10-minute drive away; a small convenience shop is here as well. Logs are sold on site and you can pick up home-laid free-range eggs from the small on-site shops which has essentials. Hungry for more? A pub serving meals is less than a five-minute drive away. The Ice Cream Farm is about the same distance if you’re craving dessert (surely always); when stopping here, burn off any calories consumed on walks alongside the nearby canal. Swallow Farm Campsite is also close to hiking and cycling routes for exploring more of the local lands and has essential facilities such as two toilets and a shower as well as a dishwashing area.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Absolutley fabulous campsite. We have just got back from a lovely 3 night stay, plenty of space to pitch up very clean pitches. Tracey and Colin lovely with children allowing them to feed and pet animals and collect eggs, lovely dog also there my children loved the animals and pip. Could use their fire pits if you purchased logs from them £6 a night which we thought was brilliant. Facilities are spotless however only 2 toilets and 1 shower which is not a problem as site only has a maximum of 8-10 pitches. Also field for kids to play with football goals. I can't recommend this site enough we enjoyed it from start to finish, will definitley be going back. Great value for money

Disliked: Nothing to dislike

Disliked: Only 1 shower- it wasn’t actually a problem as we never needed to wait to use it but felt like we had to rush incase anyone else was waiting.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Small site with a personal touch. Very friendly and attentive hosts. Really enjoyed our stay.

Disliked: Could do with an extra shower, toilet, sink and washing up facilities as there was a queue at peak times. Though I just tried to avoid when it was busy.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: We absolutely loved our weeks stay here, Colin & Tracy are absolutely lovely people, always making sure everybody was okay, recommending great places to go, one of them being the Crocky trial which was the best day out! They even made us a cup of tea whilst packing up our tent which I thought was so so kind 🥹 Colin was always allowing the children to feed the animals and their dog pip what a lovely dog she is, my girls loved her. Seen a few people complaining about the one shower, but we stayed for 6 nights and managed to get a shower every single day/night whenever we went it was always free, so no problems for us there. Besides the weather we had the most amazing time, and it doesn’t even compare to the other camp sites we have stayed on, we are definitely coming back here, I cannot recommend it enough, thank you Colin & Tracy for an unforgettable experience 😊

Disliked: Absolutely nothing to dislike.

Liked: Swallow farm is a lovely, charming place. Tracy and Colin are so welcoming, you can feel how much they love hosting. They are attentive, chatty and happy to recommend places to visit. The site is set in beautiful countryside and has sheep, llamas, goats and pigs which you can feed. It’s a wonderful site which we would love to come back to.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Site was welcoming and small, provision for the children was really good - selection of toys and scooters etc as well as a large field away from the tents that had a proper football goal in it. Children could help with animals and loved having them so close. Plentiful warm water in toilet block that was kept clean and maintained. No cars on the site (apart from (un)loading) made for a more relaxed space, less noise when people were heading out/returning and a safer space for children to roam. Close enough to Chester etc that it was easy to get to places but rural enough to be away from it all too.

Disliked: Blink and you miss it with regard to the site entrance, a sign opposite the entrance would be a great addition. Car park was pretty tight. Wash block - only one shower, two toilets (one of which was in the same room as the shower), one sink and one washing up sink. Little to no shelving to place things like wash bags. Six pitches resulted in regular queues for the shower and getting children through teeth cleaning etc with only one sink was challenging at times.

Liked: Beautiful small site. All enclosed and safe for children. I like that cars have to stay in the car park. Children all play together on the site and in the separate field. The owners Colin and Tracy are so accommodating and fabulous with the children. The children get involved with feeding the animals and collecting eggs which they love. On hot days the children were all given ice lollies which was very kind. Toilet and shower block always very clean and tidy. Always stocked with toilet paper and paper towels. It's in a great location and so close to so many fabulous attractions perfect for all ages. It has very flat pitches and generous space too. Campfires are also allowed and logs etc available to purchase on site. It now has a little shop too for those daily essentials so no need to leave site. We love this site and will definitely be back. Thank you for another fabulous visit 😁

Disliked: Nothing.

Local attractions

Kid-friendly activities out in nature aren’t far from this site: the Crocky Trail, a mile-long adventure path including slides and rope swings, is five minutes’ drive away, and the nearby former royal Beeston Castle (10 minutes' drive) transports small visitors (and larger ones) back to the 1220s with its turreted architecture. Set on a sandstone crag 350 feet higher than the Cheshire Plain, this spot also has plenty of winsome views for the grownups to sigh over; other scenic places in the area include Chester’s amphitheatre and Roman walls left over from the settlement's beginnings as a first-century fortress (20 minutes). The city also houses the Rows, a shopping street covered in handsome half-timbered buildings and partly covered arcades. Just north (25 minutes) is the unmissable Chester Zoo, one of the best and biggest in Britain with animal enclosures covering an area of 125 acres. This centre is the home of all sorts of creatures, ranging from the aardvark to the zebra, with some of the most popular being the tigers, lions and jaguars.
