  • Peaceful site on a south-facing farm with scenic views of Cheshire
  • A 10-minute drive to Tattenhall village and 20 minutes to Chester
  • Home-laid eggs available from a small on-site essentials shop
Up for a serene stay in north-west England? Swoop down to Swallow Farm Campsite and check out the Cheshire countryside from this small and peaceful dog-friendly park in the tiny hamlet of Hargrave. A stay here is certainly a scenic option – parts of the grounds have views out across to Beeston and Peckforton castles (both under a 15-minute drive away), and a little further on is Chester, which you can reach on an hourly public bus from near the park (20 minutes’ ride). The famed Chester Zoo is just north of the city (25 minutes’ drive) and the Chester Racecourse takes about the same time to reach. For food after a flutter on the horses, Tattenhall village’s restaurants and pubs – some serving tapas, Indian and Chinese cuisine – are a 10-minute drive away; a small convenience shop is here as well. Logs are sold on site and you can pick up home-laid free-range eggs from the small on-site shops which has essentials. Hungry for more? A pub serving meals is less than a five-minute drive away. The Ice Cream Farm is about the same distance if you’re craving dessert (surely always); when stopping here, burn off any calories consumed on walks alongside the nearby canal. Swallow Farm Campsite is also close to hiking and cycling routes for exploring more of the local lands and has essential facilities such as two toilets and a shower as well as a dishwashing area.

Liked I absolutely loved this site, the owners were so friendly and helpful right from the start!
It is a small site with a community atmosphere.
There were toys for the little ones to play with, an area for ball games and the children were invited to see the animals and groom the Shetland Pony with the owner.

Disliked A small dislike was that there was only 1 shower and 2 toilets, with one toilet in the shower room so if someone is showering there's only 1 available.

Liked Absolutely loved our stay at Swallow Farm. Tracy and Colin who run it are the nicest people you will ever meet, they make you feel so welcome and they check in with you to make sure you have everything you need. Honestly the most loveliest couple.
The campsite itself is small but with only 6 pitches it's perfect as there is loads of space in-between tents and lots of space in the centre of the pitches for the kids (and adults) to run around and have some fun. There is a small paddock at the back for more activities or to let your dog have a run around.
There is animals on the farm in which you are encouraged to interact with which is another great touch and of course the border collie Pip who's such a well behaved dog.
The facilities are nice and clean, only 1 shower and 2 toilets but never found this to be a problem as everyone rises at different times.
The most perfect campsite to go to if you just want a relaxing weekend away, with nice views and the best hosts. Would highly recommend.

Liked Everything!
We absolutely loved our stay here, definitely the best place we have ever camped. The kids had a great time meeting all the animals (especially Pip the dog) and playing with all the other kids. There were outdoor toys for the kids and they even got out a little paddling pool. The facilities were very clean and Tracy & Colin were the best hosts.
Hoping to return soon!

Electric grass pitch

Liked Absolutley fabulous campsite. We have just got back from a lovely 3 night stay, plenty of space to pitch up very clean pitches. Tracey and Colin lovely with children allowing them to feed and pet animals and collect eggs, lovely dog also there my children loved the animals and pip. Could use their fire pits if you purchased logs from them £6 a night which we thought was brilliant. Facilities are spotless however only 2 toilets and 1 shower which is not a problem as site only has a maximum of 8-10 pitches. Also field for kids to play with football goals. I can't recommend this site enough we enjoyed it from start to finish, will definitley be going back. Great value for money

Liked Lovely, clean site. Owners very welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. We really enjoyed our stay.

Disliked Only 1 shower- it wasn’t actually a problem as we never needed to wait to use it but felt like we had to rush incase anyone else was waiting.

Local attractions

Kid-friendly activities out in nature aren’t far from this site: the Crocky Trail, a mile-long adventure path including slides and rope swings, is five minutes’ drive away, and the nearby former royal Beeston Castle (10 minutes' drive) transports small visitors (and larger ones) back to the 1220s with its turreted architecture. Set on a sandstone crag 350 feet higher than the Cheshire Plain, this spot also has plenty of winsome views for the grownups to sigh over; other scenic places in the area include Chester’s amphitheatre and Roman walls left over from the settlement's beginnings as a first-century fortress (20 minutes). The city also houses the Rows, a shopping street covered in handsome half-timbered buildings and partly covered arcades. Just north (25 minutes) is the unmissable Chester Zoo, one of the best and biggest in Britain with animal enclosures covering an area of 125 acres. This centre is the home of all sorts of creatures, ranging from the aardvark to the zebra, with some of the most popular being the tigers, lions and jaguars.
