  • Spacious paddock with plenty of peace and privacy
  • Cheshire Oaks designer outlet shopping village within a 15-minute walk
  • A 15-minute drive from Chester and half an hour from Liverpool
Wind down wherever you wish at Rake Meadows – this site is on a two-acre paddock with a pick-your-own-pitch setup and tons of space to choose from. Set down a country lane in Cheshire next to a field full of horses and surrounded by tall hedges and trees, it feels pretty private and is next to a wildlife reserve with lots of birds and rabbits about. So far so rural, right? Well, sort of. The site’s actually just a 15-minute walk from Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet with its huge selection of high-end goods at reduced prices. There’s also an aquarium, cinema, bowling alley and indoor golf next to the complex and plenty of places to source eats (including at a chain inn a five-minute walk away). Eat here or stoke up the barbecue on base, then burn off any indulgences at a local gym with indoor and outdoor pools, tennis and a sauna (15 minutes away on foot). There’s also direct access to a footpath for dog walks – and yep, you’re most welcome to bring the pup along to this pet-friendly park. As for activities and attractions to jump in the car for, Chester is 15 minutes’ drive south (with its famed zoo a little closer by) and Liverpool is half an hour north. They’re both a breeze to get to as the site is easily located just off the A5117 (but please note that the trade-off for such a handy location is the presence of some road noise).

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Lovely little site a 5 minute walk from Cheshire Oaks and two great pubs within a 2 minute walk. Very basic site with a portaloo, water and EHU by the stables. We booked the hard standing for one night and it was perfect. We slept in the pop top. Yes, you can hear the traffic from the road but it didn’t bother us at all. The owner quickly responded to our messages when we arrived and we didn’t need to contact her again until we thanked her for a perfect stay. We have stayed at the CAMC up the road, and for one night, prefer this one. We will be back.

Liked: Ideal location for Chester and Cheshire oaks it is just a short walk away, great hardstanding pitch with EHU, right next to a really nice pub/restaurant. Host gave brilliant directions to find the pitch and was on hand for any questions or local info. Will definitely stay again

Liked: Peaceful place to stay. Got to park alone for privacy. Pub right behind the site to get something to eat and two others close by. Lady who owns the site was lovely and helpful. Short walk to Cheshire oaks.

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: It's It's field

Disliked: Portable loo not ideal very basic. Only 1 portable loo which would be terrible if field busy

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Very misleading review, you decided to pitch in the field (all guests have this option) and we’re fully able to pitch on hardstanding if desired. My page states extremely clearly the facilities are basic, so if you don’t want basic facilities (many vdubbers love off grid) don’t book! Obviously when camping is open (currently closed until next year) more portaloo facilities are hired in, as we only have one booking per night I feel the toilet to pitch ratio of 1:1 is more than adequate. So to make a comment based on an inaccurate presumption and add such a low rating due to your own insufficient research is extremely mean spirited

Disliked: Smelly toilets,,

From the manager: Thank you for your review and pleased you will visit again. I am very sorry that the toilets were not in perfect condition as they are attended several times a day, however, they will only be as clean as they are left by the previous user which I am guessing may have happened on this occasion. Generally the toilets receive complementary feedback 🤞🙏

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Quiet, flat meadow. Toilets clean. Pub next door is excellent!

Disliked: Wasn't obvious where to pitch and also park (especially as the weather was wet, and the field was a little boggy in places).

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for your review 🙏 As I always explain to guests you are able to pitch where suits you. I’m actually surprised the meadow isn’t more wet given the unprecedented amount of rain we have had this month, I’m just pleased that this does not seem to have affected your stay and another positive vote for the pub next door is always good to hear 👍

Local attractions

Check out Chester (15 minutes’ drive from the park), a city founded by the Romans in the 1st century AD and still with the red sandstone walls to prove it. Roam around the Rows in the old town too on the lookout for trinkets in the dual-level arcades before recharging with a sit down at the Roman amphitheatre slightly out of the centre. Chester Zoo (10 minutes) is a little closer to the park than the city itself, so head here enroute to see the rhinos, big cats and red pandas. No car is necessary for visiting the underwater creatures at the Blue Planet Aquarium, however, as it's a 10-minute walk away. To spend time outdoors, shuffle along the Shropshire Union Canal (five minutes’ drive); the "Shroppie", as the locals call it, branches off into the Llangollen and Montgomery canals over in north Wales (grand if you fancy a longer wander).
