Bawtry Caravan and Camping: Entrance to the park

General

  • Peaceful adults-only site on the edge of a South Yorkshire market town
  • A 20-minute drive from Doncaster and 40 minutes from Sheffield
  • Dog-friendly site; pubs and shops five minutes' drive away

Searching for a slice of peace in the countryside? Join an adults-only site in the town of Bawtry in rural South Yorkshire. At Bawtry Caravan and Camping, you can kick back with a good book under the blanket of branches and bring your dog along to share in its quiet open spaces. A 20-minute drive from Doncaster and 40 minutes from Sheffield, urban time is not out of the reach, but you can still unwind away from the crowds and watch nature play out before your eyes.

Leave the car behind if you wish… there are several bus routes within walking distance, which will whisk you away to Doncaster, wildlife parks and walking routes. A day of golf or fishing take your fancy? There’s an 18-hole golf course five minutes’ drive away, and footpaths from the site that will take you to local fishing lakes within 30 minutes’ walk.

Back on site, the launderette and toilets should keep you feeling fresh, and when you're done with time out and about, you can get down to exploring the expanses of woodlands on site.

But don't forget, you’re only as good as your supply of snacks… so pick up nibbles from the shops in Bawtry, within five minutes’ drive, ready for a barbecue back on site – or leave the hard work down to the chefs in its several restaurants. Handily, there are several pubs around too, including some with fenced pub gardens for dogs and kids to play in safety.

We stayed here for almost two weeks whilst waiting to move house. Decent walks to local pubs and amenities. Good, friendly staff who were always available. We had only booked a week to begin with and had to extend our stay but that was no problem. Shower block was one of the best we had seen.

Great site, quite compact but in a really nice setting. Facilities are of high standard and very well maintained / cleaned

The forrest walk is no more, but the reasoning behind this makes sense. you can still walk through and up along the golf course so no bother.

    Disliked:

Most of the trees have been cut down to make way for static caravans. The scenery was lovely & this was our 3rd stay but unfortunately may have been the last. As it just isn't the same the female warden has left & now they have a 70 yr old man in her place. Wasn't even greeted on arrival just as well our friends were already there to let us in the park. The radiators in the shower block were repeatedly turned off, I'm sorry but just because the park isn't very busy doesn't mean the few of us there should have to be cold when using the loo or showers! Especially when we've paid a fortune to stay & have to pay extra for electric. Also very unprofessional to hear the park owners son shouting & arguing with the elderly warden.

This is my 5th time at Bawtry caravan and camping site and was surprised to see the felling of the pine trees adjacent to the site
I spoke with the owner Joe and he is very saddened at having to take this course of action but had no alternative as it is dangerous to public safety as deemed by the H&S executive
Unfortunate sandy type soil which is not suitable for this type of tree as it does not have deep roots.
Some have recently blown over in the last few storms and some are leaning quite severely (see pics).

My dog was digs in the ground where the trees stood, the only time she ever digs is on the beach because of all the soft sand or in this case on this ground (see pics)

There is still access where the trees stood that opens up to farmland and public bridleways around farmland and golf course. You can walk for miles or just to the nearest village pub and have a meal and a pint, I suggest the Ship Inn on Newington road, all home made food.

One of the main attractions is the Mosaic Reserve, which is directly across the road from this site, this absolutely beautiful and picturesque, wonderful for walking your dogs or having a hike or picnics etc. You could spend the whole day there, it is truly a hidden gem.

A peaceful setting. The site is being developed to build new lodges and as such has a lot of felled trees round the area. This didn’t detract from my stay though and the site will be lovely when the development is completed. The toilet block and facilities are excellent. A good Elsan point is in the same area, as is the grey waste drain. My pitch had a lovely grassy area as I chose a corner plot and I was able to tether my pooch on this. The office has a small collection of groceries for sale and on arrival you pay a £10 deposit for a gate key which is retuned when you leave. £1 of electricity is included in the booking and I bought an extra £3 the minimum). I stayed 1 night and only used half this amount (I have a tv and used the electric heater for a time).

    Disliked:

Not really a dislike, more an ideal ‘want’….I have a motorhome which is easiest when sites have a drive over drain to get rid of grey waste, so perhaps this would be something the site could consider providing, with the growing number of motorhomes around now.

    The Park.
It has been ruined its nothing like as described on the website, no forest or available walks through the forest /woodlands.
All the surrounding forests have been chopped down, pine tree devastation everywhere, if this is progess then its very poor indeed.
Acres and acres of woodland chopped down so the site can put Lodges on it.
We are supposed to be planting trees this day and age not destroying them.
I dont know how the council that passed this can even look at themselves, greed is the answer.
