  • Pop-up pitches on a farm opposite National Trust’s Cragside estuary
  • A five-minute drive to Cragside; 40 minutes to Alnmouth and Craster
  • Adjacent to the St Oswald’s Way; path to the village’s shops and pubs
Wagtail Farm is very much an adventurous site, opposite the National Trust’s Cragside estuary and country house. Whether it’s riverside walks, sloping trails or the St Oswald’s Way adjacent to the site, you’ll have your choice of scenic paths nearby and the coast 40 minutes’ drive away too – that includes Craster’s kippers and Alnmouth's beach. Now, how about the evenings? Well, there are firepits on site (a limited number) and picnic tables where you can unload a takeaway from the local village. Rothbury (five minutes’ drive) is a handsome place to head out at dinnertime too, with the river Coquet splitting the village in half, and cafés, pubs, takeaways and shops throughout. You can get to Rothbury on foot in the day, and there’s no need to go along the roadside, as there's a footpath down a disused railway track. There are many more trails around the surrounding hills and elsewhere in Northumberland, ideal for those of you with a well-behaved canine friend (they’re allowed, on a lead at all times). The site itself is a quiet, friendly place a couple of kilometres from the edge of Northumberland National Park. The Coquet valley is known for its scenery and this hill farm (with sloping pitches) makes the most of that, with cattle, sheep and a small amount of arable. There are horses, chickens and ducks to be seen and fresh eggs available to buy. Facilities are basic but there is access to a tap and portable toilet.
