  • Dog-friendly park with direct access to Kielder Forest and Pennine Way
  • A 15-minute drive from Otterburn and 25 to Jedburgh
  • Well-kept amenities with plenty of free hot water
If you have a canine adventurer, prepare to bring them here. A barkingly high amount of woofsome walkies are available in the area surrounding Otterburn's dog-friendly Border Forest Caravan Park, for it has direct access from its bridge over the burn to the mighty Kielder Forest and the Pennine Way. Collar a stay here forthwith... Its location and its amicable, quiet and family-friendly feel make Border Forest Caravan Park a popular place for Northumberland stays. Its amenities are cleanly kept and include ladies' and gents' showers with free hot water, plus toilets and washing-up facilities in the park's centre. (It's worth noting that from time to time during the summer months pesky midges make an appearance, so it's worth packing your repellents.) As Border Forest is a quiet park, there's no shop or club on site, but a small supermarket is a short drive away. The local village Otterburn has a café, pubs, shops and a tourist information centre.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Beautiful location our pitch was great with a view of the river. lots of fantastic walks and very peaceful.

Disliked: The showers were very outdated and well past their best. They also smelt funny and needed a good clean. We felt lik we didn’t really want to use them

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Level pitch, next to pretty stream

Disliked: Very, very old-fashioned basic facilities - no lights in toilets (in case it attracts midges) and ‘walks through forest tracks’ non-existent - the Forestry Commission has chopped down trees for miles around, leaving a lunar-like landscape.

From the manager: I believe we are a Marmite site, you either love it here or not.
We are a real natural country site in the midst of
Englands Highlands .Some people are more cut out for town and city areas and need to take it into account ,here we live as much as possible with nature ,so if you are thinking of visiting, remember no shops ,takeaways or club .
Kielder Forest was partly devastated by Storm Arwen 2023 but is recovering, it is a working forest providing 5/8% of our timber needs and soaking up Carbon in the process nothing like a Lunar landscape!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Lovely lovely site ,quiet and peaceful, just make sure you have enough supplies! Not a lot around. Walks from the site. Toilets adequate but a trail to the shower. Owners very pleasant and friendly. Look out for the wild goats out on the walks. Great place for a get away.

Local attractions

Kielder Forest is indeed mighty: this is the biggest human-made woodland in England and covers 250 acres. Roe deer roam here, many an archaeological feature and Site of Special Scientific Interest can be found, and the forest is also home to Kielder Castle, piles of walking and cycling trails, and Kielder Observatory (this is top stargazing territory too). Also in the forest, mosey along to the reservoir Kielder Water and Leaplish Waterside Park to hire fishing and pleasure boats, hide in the red squirrel hide, walk on water or try other activities like archery, crossbows, sea scooters or gymnastics. Within easy driving distance of the site are famed Northumberland and Scottish Borders attractions like the budget-friendly Jedforest farm and animal park with native and exotic species and Mary Queen of Scots' House, both at Jedburgh 25 minutes away; Alnwick Castle and Hadrian's Wall (about an hour, and both also rather mighty); 19th-century Cragside House (45 minutes' drive), and the first-class Holy Island of Lindisfarne off the Northumberland coast (an hour and a half). Clay pigeon shooting is also available locally.
