  • Dog-friendly park with direct access to Kielder Forest and Pennine Way
  • A 15-minute drive from Otterburn and 25 to Jedburgh
  • Well-kept amenities with plenty of free hot water
If you have a canine adventurer, prepare to bring them here. A barkingly high amount of woofsome walkies are available in the area surrounding Otterburn's dog-friendly Border Forest Caravan Park, for it has direct access from its bridge over the burn to the mighty Kielder Forest and the Pennine Way. Collar a stay here forthwith... Its location and its amicable, quiet and family-friendly feel make Border Forest Caravan Park a popular place for Northumberland stays. Its amenities are cleanly kept and include ladies' and gents' showers with free hot water, plus toilets and washing-up facilities in the park's centre. (It's worth noting that from time to time during the summer months pesky midges make an appearance, so it's worth packing your repellents.) As Border Forest is a quiet park, there's no shop or club on site, but a small supermarket is a short drive away. The local village Otterburn has a café, pubs, shops and a tourist information centre.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Stunning location. Large hardstanding pitches. Free hot showers. Super dog friends. An amazing dog walking area.

Disliked Lights in kitchen didn't work. Had to wash up using my phone torch!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Agree light in the kitchen doesn’t work. Deliberately so customer wash up in daylight, not causing disturbed evenings and light pollution, also saves on electricity.
For the winter we have a separate kitchen with light ,causing me sleepless nights re cost

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Dark sky. Quiet

Disliked Pitches a bit too close to each other.
Nearest pub/shop/ petrol station too far away.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Our pitchup state nearest small shop 9 miles away, nearest pub 4 miles, that is the reason most people come here, for a complete getaway!
Pitches have river or burn at front of pitch and park track at back

We would love to see a family washroom with a bath for babies.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Good clean facilities.
Very helpful staff and other site users when our caravan door lock malfunctioned and locked us out!

Disliked As the site isn't within walking distance of useful amenities, it would be lovely to have a little shop onsite for emergency essentials or local produce.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked First ever trip in our camper and couldn't have picked a better site. So peaceful and beautiful pitches overlooking the river. The owners are lovely and have thought of everything, the pitches are close to fresh water supply, toilets (very clean) and a kitchen with a microwave, vacuum and books or dvd's to borrow. Shower block a little further away but still very close. Grey water and toilet waste disposal also close by. They also have a dog wash area which isn't a surprise as this site is definitely set up with your four legged friend in mind. As well as the river for your dog (and you) to swim in, there's also an amazing dog walk area with ponds (i think you can swim here too if you wish), picnic benches and plenty of dog waste bins around the site. There are also so many lovely walks in the area as well as being right on the Pennine Way and on a night time you can enjoy the beautiful dark skies. Can't wait to visit again.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked A really peaceful setting with amazing walks from the back of the site. Perfect for staying with dogs as it has a large secure field for them to run in. We stayed on the pitch next to the river and enjoyed watching the wildlife, including a kingfishers, every morning. Everyone was really friendly and made you feel very welcome. It is a very well run site and exceptionally clean site.

Local attractions

Kielder Forest is indeed mighty: this is the biggest human-made woodland in England and covers 250 acres. Roe deer roam here, many an archaeological feature and Site of Special Scientific Interest can be found, and the forest is also home to Kielder Castle, piles of walking and cycling trails, and Kielder Observatory (this is top stargazing territory too). Also in the forest, mosey along to the reservoir Kielder Water and Leaplish Waterside Park to hire fishing and pleasure boats, hide in the red squirrel hide, walk on water or try other activities like archery, crossbows, sea scooters or gymnastics. Within easy driving distance of the site are famed Northumberland and Scottish Borders attractions like the budget-friendly Jedforest farm and animal park with native and exotic species and Mary Queen of Scots' House, both at Jedburgh 25 minutes away; Alnwick Castle and Hadrian's Wall (about an hour, and both also rather mighty); 19th-century Cragside House (45 minutes' drive), and the first-class Holy Island of Lindisfarne off the Northumberland coast (an hour and a half).
